PUNJAB, HARYANA, UT ON HIGH ALERT AFTER MUMBAI ATTACKS

The security forces in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh have been put on high alert in the wake of terror attack in Mumbai. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Punjab Governor General (Retd) SF Rodrigues strongly condemned the terrorist attack.
Top officials held series of meetings to review the security status and instructed the police and other paramilitary forces to maintain high vigil in and around the region of Haryana and Punjab. In Chandigarh, the security was beefed up around all the key hotels and public places. A Union Territory spokesperson said the police have intensified patrolling across the city.
The security was beefed up at Amritsar and Chandigarh airports. Security personnel were also deployed outside the Taj and other hotels and public places of tourist interest in Chandigarh and Punjab. A spokesman of Haryana Home Department said that instructions have been issued to Commissioner of Police, Gurgaon, all deputy commissioners, superintendents of police, and deputy commissioners of police to enhance vigil and strengthen security arrangements.
He said that they have also been directed to pay special attention towards the security of foreigners staying in various parts of the state including in hotels and guest houses.In a statement, Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal described the terror strikes as "the most tragic and most reprehensible.”
Badal said: “No religion preaches hatred, violence and killing of innocents. The nation must stay united and maintain peace and communal harmony at all costs.”Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the terror attacks have once again exposed the most brazen face of terrorism. “The countrymen must unite to defeat unscrupulous elements. They will not be allowed to succeed in their nefarious motives,” said Hooda.
General Rodrigues said that there was no place for violence in a democratic society, based on the principles of peaceful living and co-existence and such ugly happenings, aiming to disturb peace and tranquility, need condemnation by all right thinking people. He conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the members of bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery, of the injured in this unfortunate tragedy. He also paid his condolences to the security officials who sacrificed their lives while fighting the anti-national elements.
