Chandigarh December 31:

The PPP will release its first list on Saturday after administering a pledge to all its candidates from the Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar. The list is likely to have 30 candidates — one-third of the party’s expected tally of 90 in the Sanjha Morcha.

Among those to be administered the pledge by Abhay Sandhu, nephew of matryr Bhagat Singh, will be Gurdas Badal — father of PPP president Manpreet Singh Badal — who is contesting from Lambi against his brother and Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. Manpreet, who will contest from Gidderbaha, will also be administered the pledge. Sandhu himself was the first candidate announced by the party during its launch in March.

The list also has fresh names such as Amanpreet Chhina, Ravinder Dhariwal, Dr Navjot Dahiya and Diljit Singh Sadarpura. Also likely to figure in the first list is famous comedian Bhagwant Mann, who is the party’s choice from Lehra seat in Sangrur. However, since PPP’s alliance partner in the Sanjha Morcha, CPI, too is keen to field its candidate from Lehra, the final decision will be made public on Saturday. Tarn Taran and Muktsar are the other two seats where the PPP and CPI had to reach a consensus.

The list will also include the two candidates of former chief minister Surjit Singh Barnala’s SAD (Longowal). Barnala’s son Gaganjit is the Morcha contender from Dhuri and party’s general secretary Baldev Mann from Sangrur constituency.
