Possible date change for Indian GP

19 May 2011
Rumours are growing about the first Indian Grand Prix being set back until December in order to allow room on the current calendar for the postponed race in Bahrain. Since the violent protests in the capital city of Manama earlier this year, the event in Bahrain has been under significant threat and a new date has not been announced.

Organisers of the Grand Prix have until June 3 to come to an agreement with the FIA, just two days after the country is expecting to have moved on from its ‘state of emergency’. If both parties reach a deal by the set date, a change on the calendar will be needed in order for the race to go ahead, with India being the most likely option.

The Buddh International Circuit is set to host the Indian round on October 30, the 17th stop on the 2011 tour. However, if the Bahrain Grand Prix does get reinstated this year, the 5.14-km (3.19-mi) venue could stage the final round of the season
