Polaroid, a company best known for its instant cameras, has just launched the Polaroid Cube action camera and Zip portable printer in India. The new devices will be sold exclusively through Flipkart in the coming days. The Polaroid Cube is priced at Rs. 9,990 while the Zip printer is priced at Rs. 12,350. The company will also be launching more products like the Polaroid Cube+, come December.


The Polaroid Cube is a mini, action camera similar to famous GoPro range of cameras. It measures 35mm across all dimensions and weighs 9 grams. The Cube features a 6-megapixel sensor capable of full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) video recording and a 124-degree wide-angle lens. The camera also supports microSD cards up to 32GB. The built-in battery lets you record up to 90-minutes of footage and will be available in different colours like Black, Blue, and Red. The Cube also boasts of a magnetic base, making it easy to stick onto any metal surface. It's also weather-proof and shock-proof, making it ideal for outdoor activities. The Cube+, which will launch in December, will come with Wi-Fi so you can control it through a smartphone app.

The Polaroid Zip printer is similar to LG's Pocket Photo Printer and lets you instantly print images taken from your smartphone. The printer features NFC which lets you quickly pair it with your smartphone and uses the special Zink paper to print your images without the need for ink cartridges. The printer can produce a 2x3-inch photo on-the-go. The Zip printer measures 119x73.6x22.8mm, weighs 187 grams, and will be available in Black, White, Blue and Red. The printer also features a built-in 500mAh battery which can print 25 sheets per charge.

Regalix, a digital marketing firm based in Palo Alto, California, will be the authorised licensee for Polaroid cameras in India. Commenting on the launch, which took place in Delhi, Sridharan Narayan, Vice President, Consumer Services, Regalix India Pvt. Ltd, said, "Taking a cue from the demand for action cameras in the country, Polaroid has decided to foray into the Indian market. The action camera market in the country is presently approximated at $16 million and growing at a 23 percent value."

According to Adarsh K. Menon, Vice President Electronics, Flipkart, the action photography category on the online shopping portal has been increasing steadily over the past few months. Polaroid hopes to capitalise on this momentum with its debut with the Cube camera and provide a more competitive solution to something like the GoPro range of action cameras.
