Rave reviews, happy audiences

Aamir Khan has done it again. Once more the actor-producer with the Midas Touch has struck gold at box office and that too with a film that doesn’t boast of any popular stars. Peepli [Live], this Friday’s release, has opened well at box office.

The film is learnt to have raked in Rs. 7 crore (70 million) on its opening day itself. The footfalls in theatres are likely to increase as the film has got rave reviews from every critic. Over the weekend, the positive word of mouth is going to play to the movie’s advantage and it is expected to make somewhere around Rs. 20 crore, if not more, in its first three-day run which also includes the Independence Day, national holiday, on Sunday.

What’s heartening for Aamir is that the film recovered its production cost of Rs. 10 crores even before its release from the sale of its satellite rights and music rights.

Starring Raghuvir Yadav, Omkar Das Manikpuri, Malaika Shenoy, Nawazuddin Siddique and Naseeruddin Shah, Peepli [Live] is a satirical comedy revolving around a farmer who is manipulated into deciding to commit suicide to save his piece of land. Directed by journalist-turned-director Anusha Rizvi, the film is entertaining and insightful.
