Even as political pundits have pinned high hopes on the much-awaited meeting convened by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on January 31 in Srinagar, the party leadership is unlikely to take any decisions on government formation in the meeting.
Instead of discussing government formation at the meeting, the party leadership is likely to finalise tour programmes of the party president and dates to launch a membership drive.
Highly placed sources in the party said senior party leaders of the Jammu province had already been assigned the job of finalising dates for tour programmes of Mehbooba Mufti to different districts of this region. “Although the scheduled meeting in Jammu on February 3 has been cancelled, the party president has decided to hold meetings one by one with senior leaders,” a source said, adding that the agenda of these meetings was purely organizational matters in which dates for the party president’s tour programmes in different districts would be finalised.
Sources said during her visit to Jammu from February 2 to 5, Mehbooba Mufti would likely to stay at Government Guest House as she would not go to Chief Minister’s residence on Wazarat Road.
Sources said back-channel communications between the PDP and the BJP were going on so the party (PDP) was avoiding discussing government formation with party leaders at this crucial time.
