Instead of taking the patient to MGM hospital for better medication, the police threw him in the gutters after wrapping him up in a plastic bag. He was lying there for almost 20 hours before being rescued.
The heavy rainfall and unhygienic conditions have now infected his wounded leg. He is also suffering from pneumonia.
The man was impoverished, a beggar. He was admitted to Dhalbhoomgarh hospital after a passerby had found him shivering with high fever on the street. He was referred to MGM hospital there.
It is believed that the policemen who were transferring him by an ambulance had stopped on the way, wrapped him up in a plastic bag and thrown him in the nearby gutter.
On Monday morning, a few villagers from Dhalbhoomgarh had seen a plastic bag inside the gutters, that was moving. On opening it they saw the man wrapped in a blanket shivering and severely ill. The police were called on the spot and the man was sent by an ambulance to the nearby hospital Anmandal for emergency and trauma care.
The head of the healing centre at this Anmandal, Dr. Shankar Tudu has said that, “the patient is in a serious condition and the infected portions of his leg will have to be surgically removed.”
The police are investigating the entire case and searching for the perpetrators. The patient has not been able to give evidence, as he is still not in a condition to speak.
