Over 2,000 fair price shops checked in punjab

In a bid to ensure that genuine people benefit from Public Distribution System, Punjab's Food and Civil Supplies Department has conducted checks in nearly 2,600 fair price shops in the state.

"The regular checks conducted by field officers of the Department ensure that the beneficiaries get good quality foodgrains at the fixed rates, as per their entitlement. During last one month we checked 2,624 fair price shops in the state," Department's Director, DS Grewal said here today.

He said that Punjab has a well established network of 13,898 fair price shops and kerosene depots. Grewal informed that during the present SAD-BJP regime, the Department had distributed a total of 8,866.9 metric tonne wheat and 4,353.7 metric tonne pulses in the state under PDS.
