Occasional Use Of Spray Cleaners May Cause Asthma

Now you can bring up yet another excuse when asked to clean your room. Recent studies at Medical Research in Barcelona, Spain concluded that using spray cleaners might cause asthma in adults. Even if you use it occasionally, there are high chances that spray cleaners may trigger off an asthma attack. It is estimated that one out of seven adults get affected due to constant exposure to spray cleaners.

The sprays that were associated with triggering off an asthma attack were basically furniture sprays, glass-cleaners and air fresheners. It was concluded that there was no link found between non-sprayed cleaning products and asthma attack. Previously, cleaning sprays were said to trigger off asthma greatly in those who cleaned for a living, but this is the first time that it has been linked to household cleaning.

The effect of asthma varied with different spray products and the number of times they were used. However, those who used it on a regular basis were affected much more than those who used it sparingly. The results were concluded after a study on more than 3500 subjects, across 22 study centers in 10 European countries.
