Routine life remains paralysed, and flood situation worsens in Hyderabad as rain continued to wreak havoc in the city for the third consecutive day. Schools, offices, factories remain shut as a result of the rains. The heavy downpour that started from Tuesday evening, flooded many areas in Greater Hyderabad, particularly the low-lying areas were thrown out of gear. Commuters had a difficult time reaching their destinations due to damaged roads and traffic.
Many casualties have been reported in areas like Yadagripally, Banjara Hills, Hussain nagar, RR district. The waterlogged areas are: Lakdi ka pul, Rajiv Gandhi Statue, D K Road, Road no 36/10 junction, GHMC Park opposite Peddama Temple, Deccan Park and Ruby Garden in Tolichowki, Ayakar Bhavan, Nampally, Tilak Nagar T Junction, Amberpet 6 number junction, Malakpet Railway Bridge, Seven Temple, Lothukunta, RP Petrol Pump and Bapuji Nagar.
Hyderabad has so far received 725.4mm of rainfall which is 23% more than the average of 588.6 mm rainfall, and there seems to be no respite. A house collapsed in Pittalabasti in Marredpally due to heavy rain, but no casualties were reported. The prevailing situation in Rangareddy district led the District Collector to declare a holiday for private and government schools in Balanagar, Qutbullapur, Malkajgiri and Serilingampally mandals.
Netizens took to social media to update about the situation across different areas. According to the reports of The Hindu, the water levels in the Hussainsagar, and other lakes increased rapidly due to heavy rainfall. The inflow into the Hussainsagar was 4,000 cusecs, while the authorities were letting out about 2,500 cusecs. The full tank level of 513.40 metres was achieved and the present level was 513.70 metres.
Given the situation, the authorities have decided to let water from the Hussainsagar and alerted people living in the low-lying areas along the course. Expecting another round of heavy rainfall, the Hyderabad Traffic Police have advised people not to venture on the roads unless urgent it is an emergency.
