Hyderabad :The Andhra Pradesh government on Saturday decided to keep on hold a controversial government order to enforce ‘no work, no pay' policy for employees participating in strike for a separate Telangana state, following protests from government employees and political parties in Telangana,
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting here. Minister for Finance Anam Ramanarayana Reddy told reporters that the order will be kept in abeyance for the time being and the government will elicit public opinion on the issue.
Issued earlier last week, the order created a major political controversy as Telangana leaders of all political parties strongly opposed it.
Apart from the parties like the Telangana Rashtra Samiti and the BJP, the ruling Congress party and the main opposition Telugu Desam also opposed the order, saying it was an attempt to crush the democratic rights of the employees of the Telangana region.
Fresh agitation
The government move followed the non cooperation movement launched by Telangana employees in February. While Telangana Congress leaders including minister J. Krishna Rao and member of Parliament G. Vivek opposed the controversial order, Congress leaders from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions said there was nothing new in the order and it had restated the old policy of the government.
The decision follows the government employees' plan to launch a fresh agitation against the order.
