Chandigarh October 4:

Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh on Monday said there was no need to bring a resolution in the state assembly seeking clemency for Khalistan militant Devender Pal Singh Bhullar.

There was no need to bring a resolution in the Assembly as the matter was before the Supreme Court, he said. "Let the Supreme Court decides the Bhullar issue and there is no need to fight on it in the Assembly," the former Chief Minister said.

He, however, said Bhullar must get benefit of doubt as aroung 100 witnesses had turned hostile and his conviction was based on police statement. The mercy plea of Bhullar, who is death row, had been rejected by the President. Bhullar was convicted for attacking former Youth Congress chief M S Bitta in Delhi in 1993.
