Motorola has expanded its Razr line-up with two new phones—the Razr D1 and the Razr D3. Both phones run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and have the same design philosophies as the rest of the Razr line-up. The D1 costs R$549 (approx. Rs 15,017) and the D3 costs R$799 (approx. Rs 21,932). As of now, the phones are only available in Brazil.

The phones have dual-SIM support, and camera features include BSI technology that allows for good pictures in low light scenarios. The cameras are also capable of taking pictures in HDR. The D1 sports a 3.5-inch display, whereas the D3 has a 4-inch display.

The battery on the devices are undoubtedly a force to reckon with, as that is mostly what Motorola is famous for. The batteries are further complemented with Motorola’s SmartACtions app that automates tasks based on time, place and battery level. The Razr D1 is equipped with a 1785 mAh battery and the D3 is equipped with a 2000 mAh battery.

“The newest RAZR family members come with everything you expect from cutting-edge, Android 4.1-powered smartphones except the high prices,” said Renato Arradi, Product Manager, Motorola Mobility Brazil. “And with a guaranteed upgrades to the next Android version, they’re going to stay on the cutting edge.”

Powering the D1 is a 1GHz processor along with 1GB of RAM. These should work decently with Jelly Bean to provide a smooth experience. The D3 has a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM.

Since the phones run on Jelly Bean, they also have access to Google’s sometimes-creepy Google Now feature. You can access Google Now by flicking the homescreen up. It provides information like the best route to take to the office, traffic conditions on the way, nearby events and businesses and weather. It also provides translations and exchange rates when you’re travelling abroad.

While we have details on these phones, information on the Motorola X phone is sparse. Recent reports state that the X Phone will start shipping in July. The X Phone has been circulating in the rumour mills for quite some time now and is expected to be unveiled, or at the very least, teased during Google I/O in May. That would also be a good launchpad for the estimated July launch date.

Rumours in the past have suggested the phone will have an edge-to-edge full HD display, a rugged or unbreakable casing and a long-lasting battery, something that Google feels has been often ignored by other manufacturers. It is also said to be featuring the Sony Exmor RS sensor that is used in the Sony Xperia Z.

The first phone to be produced by Google and Motorola, after the former acquired the latter’s business last year, will give you the liberty to pick the device and then choose which carrier you want go with. Similar to how Dell changed the PC game in the 1990s, Google wants to build phones to order and then sell them at a very affordable price tag, which won’t be bound to a contract.
