Italian carmaker Fiat is set to introduce a more affordable version of its Linea saloon tomorrow. With this new car, the car company aims to offer a proper mid-size saloon for price of a sub-four metre one.

The Fiat Linea Classic will be powered by the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel motor good for 75bhp. The 90bhp diesel (seen on the Linea) will not make it to the Linea Classic. The lower powered 75bhp gets a FGT (fixed geometry turbo). The omission of VGT (seen on the 90bhp verison) should help Fiat keep costs low. The diesel car will come in two versions -- the Classic and the Classic Plus.

The Linea Classic will also be offered in petrol, powered by the same 1.4-litre engine as in the current Linea. It will make the same 88bhp -- no change here.

This new model will make way for the new Linea, already being tested in India.

In terms of equipment, the carmaker is likely to omit some features like airbags, steering-mounted controls and chrome touches. Alloy wheels and climate control will be available only on the Classic Plus diesel variant.

Fiat is following an aggressive pricing strategy with the Linea Classic. The petrol will be priced at Rs. 5.99 lakh while the diesel will be priced from Rs 6.95 lakh.
