After coaching more than 50 players national(42) and international(8), Muhammad Imran, the not so well known player and a present coach earns his livelihood by selling track suits on the roads of Gorakhpur district in Uttar Pradesh.

Muhammad Imran played for the Fertilisation Corporation Of India and won many tournaments for them until all the sports were shut down by government. He played for the time period of 1974-85 and started coaching other players in 1987 and produced some of the cherished jewels for India such as Rita Pandey, Rajni Choudhari, Sanjeev Ojha, Pratima Choudhari, Janardan Gupta and Sanvar Ali and the vice-captain of India’s women Hockey Team Nidhi khullar who also recently represented our country in 2016 Rio Olympics.

Muhammad Imran was himself trained by the legendary Dhyan Chand and appreciated too but the circumstances have forced him to rely on a mere pension of 1000 rupees a month and hence he is out on streets to earn a healthy living and to collect for his daughter’s wedding. Each day after he completes his role as the sole breadwinner of the family he trains the aspiring hockey players in his district.

Once Dhyan chand was asked by Muhammad that how can he become the best hockey player in the world and the reply was rather subtle. The legend advised him to give in infinitive efforts and if still the goal is not achieved then train the aspiring hockey players nearby.

Despite of all the odds he did not kneel before the fate and continues to follow to same routine where in he manages to play dual role, first for his family and second for his long unachieved dream to be the best hockey player in the world by training the one who require it the most.
