And the stage was set for the tossup of glamour and old world charm at Miss world Panjaban 2006 organised (under the aegis of Sabhyacharak Sathh Punjab at GRD Academy in Ludhiana) in which Japji Khaira from Australia was choosen as the Miss World Punjaban 2006. And the stage was set for the tossup of glamour and old world charm at Miss world Panjaban 2006 organised (under the aegis of Sabhyacharak Sathh Punjab at GRD Academy in Ludhiana) in which Japji Khaira from Australia was choosen as the Miss World Punjaban 2006. Comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi, Educationist Nirmal Jaura and Cultural expert (from Canada) Meera Virk anchored the show that had 16 contestents rying for the title of Miss World Punjaan 2006. The most interesting round was of the heritage quiz., which offered a nice peepinto the almost-forgotten aspects of cultural hentage. For modernity-saddled youngsters it was a revelation to see the contestants answer question on Punjab culture with ponche.
Amandep Kaur Waraich bagged to title of Mrignayani (Miss Beautiful eyes), Harsimarat Kaur’s smile captivated the audience and the judges alike. She was awarded the title of Miss Beautiful smile-Harpreet Rekhi was adjudged the most Beautiful Pride, while Gurleen Garreli was Giddha Queen. Rajbeer Kaur’s talent and Sukhbir Kaur’s long tresses won them the titles of Miss talent and Miss Beautiful hair respectively.
Others who received titles included Manyosh (Miss Glouring Skin), Parminder kaur (dexterous Panjabaan). Rhytm Arora (Best Dancer), Harpreet Kaur Hanjra (Miss Congeniality), Kirandeep Randhawa (Talented Punjaban), Amarjeet (Most in telligent Punjabaan) and Japji Khaira (Brilliant Panjabaan). Harpreet Kaur Hanjra was the second Runner-up while Manjosh Bhullar bagged the title of first runner-up. All these contestants were awarded gold bugties and phulkaris, besides a host of Prizes.And the winner is…… Japji Khaira from Australia was crowed Miss world Panjabaan 2006. Looking Radiant in traditional Punjabi dress she covered the audience with her quiet grace and vivacious dance. Though Australia has been her home for more than a decade, he love for Punjabi culture has not diminished. She is keen to keep her roots intact. And, nothing can lessen her love for Punjabi language that she speaks with remarkable ease. Japji believes that inner beauty is more important than a pretty face. So, unless you have beautiful thoughts your looks are of a no cousequence, she says Once back in Australia she plans to share ‘cultural nuggets’ with Punjabi youngsters there!
