A five-and-a-half-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour, Venkataramana, 22, on the terrace of his house in Rajendranagar on Sunday evening.
The minor girl's family stays in Weaker Sections Colony in Sivarampally, Rajendranagar. Next to their house, Venkataramana's sister stays.
On Sunday evening, Venkataramana's sister invited all the children in the neighbourhood to her daughter's birthday party.
The minor girl who attended the party was taken to the terrace of the house by Venkataramana on the pretext of giving some sweets, police said. "He took her into a small room on the terrace and raped her," Rajendranagar sub-inspector Krishna Naik said.
Venkataramana, who is driver, jumped on to the terrace of a neighbouring house and escaped when he noticed people coming to the terrace, police said.
The girl was sent to the Osmania General Hospital for medical examination and based on a complaint lodged by the victim's father police registered a rape case against him under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code
