Milk to cost more as Mother Dairy hikes price but petrol, diesel cheaper

Your daily glass of milk will cost more from Saturday with Mother Dairy hiking prices by Rs 1 for both its half-litre and one-litre packs. But offsetting the rate hike to an extent, petrol prices fell by Rs 2.25 a litre and diesel by 42 paise on Friday.
Mother Dairy — Delhi-NCR’s leading milk supplier with daily sales of more than 30 lakh litres — will now sell full cream milk for Rs 49 a litre, toned for Rs 39 and double-toned for Rs 35. The half-litre packs will sell for Rs 25, Rs 20 and Rs 18, respectively.
Prices of token milk (bulk-vended milk) and cow milk, however, remain unchanged. They comprise 30% of Mother Dairy’s total sales.
The price hike — to meet higher procurement costs — is Mother Dairy’s first since May 2014, and follows dairy major Amul’s Rs 1 hike last month for both its half-litre and one-litre packs in Delhi-NCR.
The fuel price reductions on global cues are the second this month. Petrol will now cost Rs 62.51 a litre in Delhi from Friday midnight, said Indian Oil Corp, the country’s largest fuel retailer. Diesel will cost Rs 54.28 a litre.
On July 1, oil companies had made petrol cheaper by 89 paise a litre and diesel by 49 paise after four successive hikes since May 1.​
