2011 Detroit Motor Show: Mercedes-Benz showcases SLS AMG E-Cell





Mercedes-Benz stole the stage with its next generation SLS AMG E-Cell at 2011 NAIAS. Flaunting the world’s most eye-searing matte-yellow paint, the SLS E-cell is a prime example of the boundless possibilities in the realm of alternative fuel automotives. The electrified supercar is powered by four synchronous electric motors located at each wheel, together generating a massive boasts 525hp and 649pound-feet of torque. The electric motors are kept closer to each wheel and help improve car’s handling prowess.
The zero emission vehicle has been stated to race from 0-60mph in 3.7 seconds. On the other, electric motors get vital juice from 480kW lithium-ion battery pack that also get charged with regenerative braking system. No word from the brand about the range of SLS AMG E-Cell and how long the will batteries will take to charge either. This electric car with scissor doors is expected to cost somewhere around $183,000, which is identical to regular SLS AMG supercar’s price tag.
