Meghalaya Gets State’s First Solar-Powered College

Loyola College, Williamnagar in Meghalaya’s East Garo hills has set a benchmark for itself by becoming the first fully solar-powered institution in the state, reported Northeasttoday.

A 15-MV solar power project was installed in the administrative block of the college during February this year.

This solar power project became a need for the college because of frequent power cuts, voltage fluctuation and lightning had damaged most of the electronics good at the college.

Since February, the institute is now generating twice the electricity than what it consumes, because of the solar power project installed on the roofs of the three-storied academic block and has so far produced 10 KW of power.

Northeasttoday also reported that the institute is also saving the cost of electricity. This will impart the students the knowledge of the usage of green and renewable energy that available amply in the Garo hills.
