In the worrying times for children’s safety, yet another distressing incident has come to light from Buldhana district in Maharashtra, where 12 minor tribal girl students were allegedly raped by their teachers and headmaster. The victims, aged between 12 to 14 years were studying at Ninadhi Ashran, a private boarding school.

The gory act was exposed when three of the twelve girls returned home to Hal Kheda village in Muktainagar taluka in Jalgaon district for Diwali. Very unlike their usual selves, the girls sat quietly in a corner. When probed about why they weren’t joining their friends for the festivities and games, they complained of stomach ache and said they felt something heavy in their stomachs. The parents took them to the hospital where it was found that the girls were pregnant, following which the families immediately lodged a complaint with Jalgaon police who later involved Buldhana police, under whose jurisdiction the incident occurred. All the other girls too have been sent to a hospital in Akola district for complete examination.

As per the police, seven teachers are currently in custody and a probe is underway. “The incident occurred just before Diwali. We have sent women police officials to talk to the victims and take their statements. So far, 10 teachers have been accused, and seven have been arrested.” said SD Baviskar, Superintendent of Police, Buldhana, as reported by DNA.

Most of the accused are local teachers, headmaster, peons and other staffers. “No one should run away. Therefore, we are taking most of them into custody. Initially, 12 tribal minors are suspected of having been raped, though the numbers could be much more,” a senior police officer said, as reported by DNA.

“Everything possible is being done to help these girls and their families and the culprits will be given capital punishment” says Muktainagar MLA Eknath Khadse.
