The Punjab government was actively considerating constitution of Language Commission in the state to streamlining the functioning of Language department and Punjabi language related matters like implementing Punjabi in the offices and other areas of concern effectively.
Education minister Upinderjit Kaur told mediapersons here that the commission had become a necessity of the government in the wake of lethargic activities of the Language department of the state which had become nearly non-functional. She said that most of the Punjab Schools affiliated with CBSE were reluctant to teach Punjabi in their schools.
The government wanted Punjabi be taught in these schools but would avoid direct confrontation with the managements of such schools and would rather approach the higher authorities of the CBSE to instruct them to teach Punjabi in their schools.
Commenting on the menace of copying in the examinations, she said that copying could not be checked forcibly and it would be possible only if an awareness campaign was launched to tell the students and their even parents about the disadvantages of the menace in future when their wards would be sitting for competitive examinations.
She said that due to the launching of Sarv Sikhya Abhiyan in the state effectively, the drop out strength of students in the government schools had come down from 2 lakh students two years back to 33,000 this year in the state.
She claimed that with the ongoing efforts of the state government for the quality education spread, the state had attained 6th position in the country in the field of education and the time was not far away when the state would top the country in the field of education with largest number of educated people. Earlier, she was honoured by a journalist body for her efforts to popularise the Punjabi language.
