In the sensational paying guest Amandeep Kaur shooting case, the Mohali court today pronounced the life term to the prime accused, Gurmeet Singh Sandhu, alias Gora Sandhu, and three-year jail to his cousin and co-accused Angrez Singh here today.
Gora, a jilted lover from Rajjewala village in Ferozepur and former district president of the Student Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU), had pumped in at least three bullets into 21-year-old Amandeep Kaur, also from the same area, on January 12 at the Phase V market here when she turned down his friendship request on the fateful day.
The .32-bore licensed revolver used in the crime belonged to Angrez Singh. A case under Section 302 of IPC and under the Arms Act was registered at the Phase I police station against the duo and their friend Jagroop Singh on a complaint of the victim’s friend, Navneet Kaur, aka Neetu. Neetu and another girl were with the victim at the time of the incident. Later, Jagroop Singh was given a clean chit by the police during their investigations.
Wrapping up the murder trial in eight months, the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Dilbagh Singh Johal here held the prime accused, Gora, guilty and pronounced the life term along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh to him while Angrez Singh was awarded a three-year jail term along with a fine of Rs 5,000.
Gora had taken the revolver from Angrez Singh’s residence at Mamdot village in Ferozepur before coming to the town to meet the victim, who had shifted here just two days before the incident to pursue an advanced computer course at Phase VII, Industrial Area.
On the fateful day, Amandeep Kaur, along with her roommates Gagandeep Kaur and Navneet Kaur, also from Ferozepur, had gone to the Phase V market in the evening to fetch some groceries when Gora, who came there with some friends in a car, stopped her and started talking to her.
According to eyewitnesses, Gora had proposed marriage to the victim, which she turned down. In a fit of rage, Gora fired three shots from point-blank range and fled from the spot. A promising career cut short
