ਉਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ | ਉਹ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਹੈ |

Truth is His name.He is the Master Creator
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ
ਉਹ ਡਰ ਰਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਵੈਰ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ |
nirbha-o nirvair
He is fearless and without enmity
ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ
ਉਹ ਭੌਤਿਕ ਸਰੂਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ | ਉਹ ਜੂਨ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੈ | ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਤਪਤੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ |

Immortal and Self Created,He bears no physical form

ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ |

ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਦਿ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਚ ਹੈ , ਰਚਨਾ ਦੇ ਆਰੰਭ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਸੱਚ ਹੈ,
aad sach jugaad sach.
God is truth incarnate from genesis to eternity
ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ || ੧ ||
ਹੁਣ ਵੀ ਸੱਚ ਹੈ , ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਹੀ ਸੱਚ ਰਹੇਗਾ |
hai bhee sach naanak hosee bhee sach.
True now,then and forever,says Nanak. || 1 ||
ਸੋਚੈ ਸੋਚਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਜੇ ਸੋਚੀ ਲਖ ਵਾਰ ||
ਸੋਚਣ ਨਾਲ ਉਸਦੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ , ਭਾਵੇਂ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਵਾਰੀ ਸੋਚਿਆ ਜਾਏ |
sochai soch na hova-ee jay sochee lakh vaar.
You cannot attain Him by just repeating His name a million times.
ਚੁਪੈ ਚੁਪ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਜੇ ਲਾਇ ਰਹਾ ਲਿਵ ਤਾਰ ||
ਚੁੱਪ ਧਾਰਣ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਂ ਅਖੰਡ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹਨੂੰ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ |
chupai chup na hova-ee jay laa-ay rahaa liv taar.
You cannot attain Him by observing silence or by offering meditational prayers for hours.
ਭੁਖਿਆ ਭੁਖ ਨ ਉਤਰੀ ਜੇ ਬੰਨਾ ਪੁਰੀਆ ਭਾਰ ||
ਭੁੱਖਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਹਿੰਦੀ ,ਭਾਵੇਂ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਭਰ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ |
bhukhi-aa bhukh na utree jay bannaa puree-aa bhaar.
You cannot attain Him by abstaining from food or by amassing wealth.
ਸਹਸ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ਲਖ ਹੋਹਿ ਤ ਇਕ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਨਾਲਿ ||
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕੋਲ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਚਤੁਰਾਈਆਂ ਹੋਣ , ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਵੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਤੀਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਹਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ |
sahas si-aanpaa lakh hohi tai ik na chalai naal.
Even the whole wisdom falls short of helping us to tread the enlightened path.
ਕਿਵ ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ਹੋਈਐ ਕਿਵ ਕੂੜੈ ਤੁਟੈ ਪਾਲਿ ||
ਅਸੀਂ ਕਿਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਸੱਚ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋਈਏ ? ਕੂੜ ਦੀ ਦੀਵਾਰ , ਜੋ ਸਾਡੇ ਅਤੇ ਰੱਬ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਹੈ ,ਕਿਵੇਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ?
kiv sachi-aaraa ho-ee-ai kiv koorhai tutai paal.
How can we mortals follow the True Path ? How can veils of falsehood be discarded ?
ਹੁਕਮਿ ਰਜਾਈ ਚਲਣਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ || ੧ ||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ,ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸੱਚਾ ਮਾਰਗ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ |
hukam rajaa-ee chalnaa naanak likhi-aa naal. || 1 ||
Nanak says,' We can achieve the true path of life only by following His Will and by His Grace'
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੋਵਨਿ ਆਕਾਰ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਕਹਿਆ ਜਾਈ ||
ਉਸਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਆਕਾਰ ਬਣੇ ਹਨ , ਇਹ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ |
hukmee hovan aakaar hukam na kahi-aa jaa-ee.
By His Will,forms are created.What is that Will ? No one can describe.
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੋਵਨਿ ਜੀਅ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ||
ਉਸਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਹੋਈ |
hukmee hovan jee-a hukam milai vadi-aa-ee.
By His Will,we are born and are blessed with fame and glory.
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਉਤਮੁ ਨੀਚੁ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ ||
ਉਸਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਉੱਚੇ ਸਥਾਨ ਤੇ ਹੈ , ਕੋਈ ਨੀਵੇਂ ; ਉਸਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਸੁੱਖ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ |
hukmee utam neech hukam likh dukh such paa-ee-ah.
By His Will,we are destined to be at a high or low pedestal,distressed or joyous.
ਇਕਨਾ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਬਖਸੀਸ ਇਕਿ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਸਦਾ ਭਵਾਈਅਹਿ ||
ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਤੇ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ , ਅਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਆਵਾਗਮਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ੍ਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ |
iknaa hukmee bakhsees ik hukmee sadaa bhavaa-ee-ah.
By His Will,life is a boon for some,while for others it is a cycle of birth and death.
ਹੁਕਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਹੁਕਮ ਨ ਕੋਇ ||
ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਮਿਥੀ ਹੋਈ ਨਿਯਮਾਵਲੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ , ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਉਸਦੀ ਹੁਕਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਹੀਂ |
hukmai andar sabh ko baahar hukam na ko-ay.
Everyone and everything is in accordance with His will,nothing is beyond that.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਜੇ ਬੁਝੈ ਤ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਹੈ ਨ ਕੋਇ || ੨ ||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਚੱਲਦੇ ਹਨ , ਹਉਮੈ ਤੋਂ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ |
naanak hukmai jay bujhai ta ha-umai kahai na ko-ay. || 2 ||
Nanak says ,’ Those who follow His Will are always relieved of egoism.'
ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਤਾਣੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਿਸੈ ਤਾਣੁ ||
ਕੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਜੱਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਬਲ ਨਾਲ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ |
gaavai ko taan hovai kisai taan.
Some sing His praise with full fervour.
ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਦਾਤਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ||
ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਨੂੰ , ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ , ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ |
gaavai ko daat jaanai neesaan.
Some sing His praise as a token of blessings for them.
ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਗੁਣ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਚਾਰ ||
ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਅਨੇਕ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਦਾ ਕਥਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ |
gaavai ko gun vadi-aa-ee-aa chaar.
Some sing of His glorious virtues and excellence.
ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਵਿਖਮੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ||
ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕਠਿਨਾਈ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਤੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ |
gaavai ko vidi-aa vikham veechaar.
Some sing of knowledge and wisdom obtained from Him with hard labour.
ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਸਾਜਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਨੁ ਖੇਹ ||
ਕੋਈ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਹੈ ,ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ |
gaavai ko saaj karay tan khayh.
Some sing of Him who infuses life in body and then reduces it to dust.
ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਜੀਅ ਲੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੇਹ ||
ਕੋਈ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਤਮਾ ਜਾਂ ਰੂਹ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਜੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ |
gaavai ko jee-a lai fir dayh.
Some sing that He recalls life,and then restores it anew.
ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਜਾਪੈ ਦਿਸੈ ਦੂਰਿ ||
ਕੋਈ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਦਿਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ |
gaavai ko jaapai disai door.
Some sing about the distance of separation from Him.
ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਵੇਖੈ ਹਾਦਰਾ ਹਦੂਰਿ ||
ਕੋਈ ਇਹ ਗਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਜ਼ਰ ਹੈ , ਸਰਬ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ |
gaavai ko vaykhai haadraa hadoor.
Some sing that He is ever watchful and omnipresent.
ਕਥਨਾ ਕਥੀ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਤੋਟਿ ||
ਉਸਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਨਾ , ਮੁੱਕਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ |
kathnaa kathee na aavai tot.
There is no limit for enumerating His Virtues.
ਕਥਿ ਕਥਿ ਕਥੀ ਕੋਟੀ ਕੋਟਿ ਕੋਟਿ ||
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਵਾਰ ਆਖ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਵੇ |
kath kath kathee kotee kot kot.
There is no dearth of millions,who sing Thy praise a million times.
ਦੇਦਾ ਦੇ ਲੈਦੇ ਥਕਿ ਪਾਹਿ ||
ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਦੇਈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ , ਪਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਲੈ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਥੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ |
daydaa day laiday thak paahi.
God,the giver; gives gifts to us and we are overwhelmed.
ਜੁਗਾ ਜੁਗੰਤਰਿ ਖਾਹੀ ਖਾਹਿ ||
ਅਸੀਂ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉਸਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਖਾਈ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ |
jugaa jugantar khaahee khaahi.
Throughout the ages,we continue to consume more and more.
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਚਲਾਏ ਰਾਹੁ ||
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ , ਉਸਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸਾਡਾ ਮਾਰਗ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਿਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
hukmee hukam chalaa-ay raahu.
By His Command,our path has been chalked out,
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ || ੩ ||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਜਿਸ ਉਪਰ ਚੱਲ ਕੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਬੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਆਨੰਦਦਾਇਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਜੀਅ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ |
naanak vigsai vayparvaahu. || 3 ||
Leading us to blissful and peaceful life,says Nanak || 3 ||
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਇ ਭਾਖਿਆ ਭਾਉ ਅਪਾਰੁ ||
ਸਰਬ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ , ਉਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ , ਉਹਦੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਪਿਆਰ ਭਰੀ ਹੈ |
saachaa saahib saach naa-ay bhaakhi-aa bhaa-o apaar.
True Lord with True Name bestows His love in abundance on us.
ਆਖਹਿ ਮੰਗਹਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ||
ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਹਾਂ , ਤੇ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ |
aakhahi mangahi dahi dahi daat karay daataar.
We beg and ask for more and more,He bestows His gifts on us in abundance.
ਫੇਰਿ ਕਿ ਅਗੈ ਰਖੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ||
ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਕੀ ਰੱਖੀਏ ਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੱਚੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਵਣ ?
fayr ke agai rakhee-ai jit disai darbaar.
what can we offer to Him to seek entry into sanctum sanctorum ?
ਮੁਹੌ ਕਿ ਬੋਲਣੁ ਬੋਲੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ||
ਅਸੀਂ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਕੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਬੋਲੀਏ ਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਡਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈ ਜਾਵੇ ?
muhou ke bolan bolee-ai jit sun Dharay pi-aar.
what words can we speak;upon hearing them His Love is evoked ?
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਉ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ||
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰੀਏ |
amrit vaylaa sach naa-o vadi-aa-ee veechaar.
The ambrosial hour before dawn is the best time to chant the glory of His True Name.
ਕਰਮੀ ਆਵੈ ਕਪੜਾ ਨਦਰੀ ਮੋਖੁ ਦੁਆਰੁ ||
ਸਾਡੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਦੇਹੀ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੈ , ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਦੁਆਰ ਵੀ ਉਸਦੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ |
karmee aavai kaprhaa nadree mokh du-aar.
By His Will,we attain new life and with His blessings we can attain enlightenment.
ਨਾਨਕ ਏਵੈ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ || ੪ ||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ , ਇੰਜ ਸਮਝ ਲਈਏ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਤਿ ਸਵਰੂਪ , ਆਪੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ |
naanak ayvai jaanee-ai sabh aapay sachiaar. || 4 ||
Nanak has realized that truth prevails due to the uniqueness of True Lord.|| 4 ||
ਥਾਪਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਕੀਤਾ ਨ ਹੋਇ ||
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਥਾਪਿਆ ਹੈ |
thaapi-aa na jaa-ay keetaa na ho-ay.
He cannot be established,nor can He be created.
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸੋਇ ||
ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ , ਇੱਕ ਸੱਚ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ !
aapay aap niranjan so-ay.
He is immaculate and impeccable by His will.
ਜਿਨਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਾਨੁ ||
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ( ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਰਿਆ ) ਕੀਤੀ , ਉਸਨੂੰ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮਿਲ ਗਈ |
jin sayvi-aa tin paa-i-aa maan.
By serving Him, we gain respect and honour.

Nanak sings the praise of the virtuous Lord,the treasure of excellence.
ਗਾਵੀਐ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਮਨਿ ਰਖੀਐ ਭਾਉ ||
ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ , ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਸਹਿਤ ਗਾਈਏ ਤੇ ਸੁਣੀਏ |
gaavee-ai sunee-ai man rakhee-ai bhaa-o.
Let us listen and sing,nurturing Lord’s love in our heart.
ਦੁਖੁ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਘਰਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ||
ਇਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ , ਸਾਡੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਰੂਪੀ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ |
dukh parhar sukh ghar lai jaa-ay.
Abandoning sorrows,we take home( soul ) all the happiness and joy.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਦੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਦੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ||
ਸੰਗਤ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ , ਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਸਰਬ ਵਿਆਪਕਤਾ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ |
gurmukh naadan gurmukh vaydan gurmukh rahi-aa samaa-ee.
The True Guru’s melody,the True Guru’s wisdom ,the True Guru’s presence is contemplated everywhere.
ਗੁਰੁ ਈਸਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਰਖੁ ਬਰਮਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਰਬਤੀ ਮਾਈ ||
ਗੁਰੁ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਹੈ , ਗੁਰੁ ਹੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਹੈ , ਗੁਰੁ ਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਹੈ , ਗੁਰੁ ਹੀ ਪਾਰਬਤੀ ਮਾਂ ਹੈ |
gur eesar gur gorakh barmaa gur paarbatee maa-ee.
The Guru is Shiva,the Guru is Vishnu and Brahma; Guru is mother Paarvati.
ਜੇ ਹਉ ਜਾਣਾ ਆਖਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਥਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ||
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਜਾਣ ਵੀ ਲਵਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਸਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ |
jay ha-o jaanaa aakhaa naahee kahnaa kathan na jaa-ee.
Even if I know God,I cannot describe Him;it is difficult to describe Him in virtues.
ਗੁਰਾ ਇਕ ਦੇਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ||
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਗੱਲ ਦੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ

ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਇਕੁ ਦਾਤਾ
ਕਿ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਹੀ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੈ
sabhnaa jee-aa kaa ik daataa
There is only One Almighty,the ultimate Giver.
ਸੋ ਮੈ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ || ੫ ||
ਉਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਨਾ ਭੁੱਲੇ |
so mai visar na jaa-ee.|| 5 ||

ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਵਾ ਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵਾ
ਜੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਚੰਗੇ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਤੀਰਥ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਦੇ ਤੁੱਲ ਹੈ ,
tirath naavaa jay tis bhaavaa
The holy bath at pilgrimage is useless if God is displeased with us.
ਵਿਣੁ ਭਾਣੇ ਕਿ ਨਾਇ ਕਰੀ ||
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਾ ਲੱਗੇ , ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਦਾ ਕੀ ਫਾਇਦਾ ?
vin bhaanay ke naa-ay karee.
The same bath is auspicious when Thy Name reverberates in the mind.
ਜੇਤੀ ਸਿਰਠਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਵੇਖਾ
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰੱਚੀ ਹੋਈ ਸ਼੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ
jaytee sirath upaa-ee vaykhaa
How can one see the creations of God,
ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਲਈ ||
ਕਿ ਉਹਦੀ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਬਗੈਰ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ |

ਮਤਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਤਨ ਜਵਾਹਰ ਮਾਣਿਕ
ਸਾਡੀ ਮੱਤ ਹੀਰੇ ਜਵਾਰਾਤ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਜਿਆਦਾ ਅਨਮੋਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ

One is blessed with noble thoughts more valuable than gems,jewels and rubies,

God is truth incarnate from genesis to eternity
ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ || ੧ ||
ਹੁਣ ਵੀ ਸੱਚ ਹੈ , ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਹੀ ਸੱਚ ਰਹੇਗਾ |

ਸੋਚੈ ਸੋਚਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਜੇ ਸੋਚੀ ਲਖ ਵਾਰ ||
ਸੋਚਣ ਨਾਲ ਉਸਦੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ , ਭਾਵੇਂ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਵਾਰੀ ਸੋਚਿਆ ਜਾਏ |
sochai soch na hova-ee jay sochee lakh vaar.
You cannot attain Him by just repeating His name a million times.
ਚੁਪੈ ਚੁਪ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਜੇ ਲਾਇ ਰਹਾ ਲਿਵ ਤਾਰ ||
ਚੁੱਪ ਧਾਰਣ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਂ ਅਖੰਡ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹਨੂੰ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ |
chupai chup na hova-ee jay laa-ay rahaa liv taar.
You cannot attain Him by observing silence or by offering meditational prayers for hours.
ਭੁਖਿਆ ਭੁਖ ਨ ਉਤਰੀ ਜੇ ਬੰਨਾ ਪੁਰੀਆ ਭਾਰ ||
ਭੁੱਖਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਹਿੰਦੀ ,ਭਾਵੇਂ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਭਰ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ |
bhukhi-aa bhukh na utree jay bannaa puree-aa bhaar.
You cannot attain Him by abstaining from food or by amassing wealth.
ਸਹਸ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ਲਖ ਹੋਹਿ ਤ ਇਕ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਨਾਲਿ ||
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕੋਲ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਚਤੁਰਾਈਆਂ ਹੋਣ , ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਵੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਤੀਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਹਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ |
sahas si-aanpaa lakh hohi tai ik na chalai naal.
Even the whole wisdom falls short of helping us to tread the enlightened path.
ਕਿਵ ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ਹੋਈਐ ਕਿਵ ਕੂੜੈ ਤੁਟੈ ਪਾਲਿ ||
ਅਸੀਂ ਕਿਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਸੱਚ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋਈਏ ? ਕੂੜ ਦੀ ਦੀਵਾਰ , ਜੋ ਸਾਡੇ ਅਤੇ ਰੱਬ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਹੈ ,ਕਿਵੇਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ?
kiv sachi-aaraa ho-ee-ai kiv koorhai tutai paal.
How can we mortals follow the True Path ? How can veils of falsehood be discarded ?
ਹੁਕਮਿ ਰਜਾਈ ਚਲਣਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ || ੧ ||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ,ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸੱਚਾ ਮਾਰਗ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ |
hukam rajaa-ee chalnaa naanak likhi-aa naal. || 1 ||
Nanak says,' We can achieve the true path of life only by following His Will and by His Grace'
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੋਵਨਿ ਆਕਾਰ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਕਹਿਆ ਜਾਈ ||
ਉਸਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਆਕਾਰ ਬਣੇ ਹਨ , ਇਹ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ |
hukmee hovan aakaar hukam na kahi-aa jaa-ee.
By His Will,forms are created.What is that Will ? No one can describe.
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੋਵਨਿ ਜੀਅ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ||
ਉਸਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਹੋਈ |
hukmee hovan jee-a hukam milai vadi-aa-ee.
By His Will,we are born and are blessed with fame and glory.
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਉਤਮੁ ਨੀਚੁ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ ||
ਉਸਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਉੱਚੇ ਸਥਾਨ ਤੇ ਹੈ , ਕੋਈ ਨੀਵੇਂ ; ਉਸਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਸੁੱਖ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ |
hukmee utam neech hukam likh dukh such paa-ee-ah.
By His Will,we are destined to be at a high or low pedestal,distressed or joyous.
ਇਕਨਾ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਬਖਸੀਸ ਇਕਿ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਸਦਾ ਭਵਾਈਅਹਿ ||
ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਤੇ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ , ਅਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਆਵਾਗਮਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ੍ਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ |
iknaa hukmee bakhsees ik hukmee sadaa bhavaa-ee-ah.
By His Will,life is a boon for some,while for others it is a cycle of birth and death.
ਹੁਕਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਹੁਕਮ ਨ ਕੋਇ ||
ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਮਿਥੀ ਹੋਈ ਨਿਯਮਾਵਲੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ , ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਉਸਦੀ ਹੁਕਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਹੀਂ |
hukmai andar sabh ko baahar hukam na ko-ay.
Everyone and everything is in accordance with His will,nothing is beyond that.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਜੇ ਬੁਝੈ ਤ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਹੈ ਨ ਕੋਇ || ੨ ||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਚੱਲਦੇ ਹਨ , ਹਉਮੈ ਤੋਂ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ |
naanak hukmai jay bujhai ta ha-umai kahai na ko-ay. || 2 ||
Nanak says ,’ Those who follow His Will are always relieved of egoism.'
ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਤਾਣੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਿਸੈ ਤਾਣੁ ||
ਕੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਜੱਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਬਲ ਨਾਲ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ |

Some sing His praise with full fervour.
ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਦਾਤਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ||
ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਨੂੰ , ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ , ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ |
gaavai ko daat jaanai neesaan.
Some sing His praise as a token of blessings for them.
ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਗੁਣ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਚਾਰ ||
ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਅਨੇਕ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਦਾ ਕਥਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ |
gaavai ko gun vadi-aa-ee-aa chaar.
Some sing of His glorious virtues and excellence.
ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਵਿਖਮੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ||
ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕਠਿਨਾਈ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਤੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ |
gaavai ko vidi-aa vikham veechaar.
Some sing of knowledge and wisdom obtained from Him with hard labour.
ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਸਾਜਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਨੁ ਖੇਹ ||
ਕੋਈ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਹੈ ,ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ |
gaavai ko saaj karay tan khayh.
Some sing of Him who infuses life in body and then reduces it to dust.
ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਜੀਅ ਲੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੇਹ ||
ਕੋਈ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਤਮਾ ਜਾਂ ਰੂਹ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਜੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ |
gaavai ko jee-a lai fir dayh.
Some sing that He recalls life,and then restores it anew.
ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਜਾਪੈ ਦਿਸੈ ਦੂਰਿ ||
ਕੋਈ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਦਿਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ |

Some sing about the distance of separation from Him.
ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਵੇਖੈ ਹਾਦਰਾ ਹਦੂਰਿ ||
ਕੋਈ ਇਹ ਗਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਜ਼ਰ ਹੈ , ਸਰਬ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ |
gaavai ko vaykhai haadraa hadoor.
Some sing that He is ever watchful and omnipresent.
ਕਥਨਾ ਕਥੀ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਤੋਟਿ ||
ਉਸਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਨਾ , ਮੁੱਕਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ |

ਕਥਿ ਕਥਿ ਕਥੀ ਕੋਟੀ ਕੋਟਿ ਕੋਟਿ ||
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਵਾਰ ਆਖ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਵੇ |
kath kath kathee kotee kot kot.
There is no dearth of millions,who sing Thy praise a million times.
ਦੇਦਾ ਦੇ ਲੈਦੇ ਥਕਿ ਪਾਹਿ ||
ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਦੇਈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ , ਪਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਲੈ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਥੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ |
daydaa day laiday thak paahi.
God,the giver; gives gifts to us and we are overwhelmed.
ਜੁਗਾ ਜੁਗੰਤਰਿ ਖਾਹੀ ਖਾਹਿ ||
ਅਸੀਂ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉਸਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਖਾਈ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ |
jugaa jugantar khaahee khaahi.
Throughout the ages,we continue to consume more and more.
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਚਲਾਏ ਰਾਹੁ ||
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ , ਉਸਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸਾਡਾ ਮਾਰਗ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਿਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
hukmee hukam chalaa-ay raahu.
By His Command,our path has been chalked out,
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ || ੩ ||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਜਿਸ ਉਪਰ ਚੱਲ ਕੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਬੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਆਨੰਦਦਾਇਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਜੀਅ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ |
naanak vigsai vayparvaahu. || 3 ||
Leading us to blissful and peaceful life,says Nanak || 3 ||
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਇ ਭਾਖਿਆ ਭਾਉ ਅਪਾਰੁ ||
ਸਰਬ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ , ਉਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ , ਉਹਦੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਪਿਆਰ ਭਰੀ ਹੈ |
saachaa saahib saach naa-ay bhaakhi-aa bhaa-o apaar.
True Lord with True Name bestows His love in abundance on us.
ਆਖਹਿ ਮੰਗਹਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ||
ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਹਾਂ , ਤੇ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ |
aakhahi mangahi dahi dahi daat karay daataar.
We beg and ask for more and more,He bestows His gifts on us in abundance.
ਫੇਰਿ ਕਿ ਅਗੈ ਰਖੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ||
ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਕੀ ਰੱਖੀਏ ਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੱਚੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਵਣ ?
fayr ke agai rakhee-ai jit disai darbaar.
what can we offer to Him to seek entry into sanctum sanctorum ?
ਮੁਹੌ ਕਿ ਬੋਲਣੁ ਬੋਲੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ||
ਅਸੀਂ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਕੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਬੋਲੀਏ ਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਡਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈ ਜਾਵੇ ?
muhou ke bolan bolee-ai jit sun Dharay pi-aar.
what words can we speak;upon hearing them His Love is evoked ?
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਉ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ||
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰੀਏ |
amrit vaylaa sach naa-o vadi-aa-ee veechaar.
The ambrosial hour before dawn is the best time to chant the glory of His True Name.
ਕਰਮੀ ਆਵੈ ਕਪੜਾ ਨਦਰੀ ਮੋਖੁ ਦੁਆਰੁ ||
ਸਾਡੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਦੇਹੀ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੈ , ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਦੁਆਰ ਵੀ ਉਸਦੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ |
karmee aavai kaprhaa nadree mokh du-aar.
By His Will,we attain new life and with His blessings we can attain enlightenment.
ਨਾਨਕ ਏਵੈ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ || ੪ ||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ , ਇੰਜ ਸਮਝ ਲਈਏ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਤਿ ਸਵਰੂਪ , ਆਪੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ |
naanak ayvai jaanee-ai sabh aapay sachiaar. || 4 ||
Nanak has realized that truth prevails due to the uniqueness of True Lord.|| 4 ||
ਥਾਪਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਕੀਤਾ ਨ ਹੋਇ ||
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਥਾਪਿਆ ਹੈ |
thaapi-aa na jaa-ay keetaa na ho-ay.
He cannot be established,nor can He be created.
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸੋਇ ||
ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ , ਇੱਕ ਸੱਚ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ !
aapay aap niranjan so-ay.
He is immaculate and impeccable by His will.
ਜਿਨਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਾਨੁ ||
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ( ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਰਿਆ ) ਕੀਤੀ , ਉਸਨੂੰ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮਿਲ ਗਈ |
jin sayvi-aa tin paa-i-aa maan.
By serving Him, we gain respect and honour.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗਾਵੀਐ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਆਉ ਸਾਰੇ ਉਸ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰੀਏ |
naanak gaavee-ai gunee niDhann.
Nanak sings the praise of the virtuous Lord,the treasure of excellence.
ਗਾਵੀਐ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਮਨਿ ਰਖੀਐ ਭਾਉ ||
ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ , ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਸਹਿਤ ਗਾਈਏ ਤੇ ਸੁਣੀਏ |
gaavee-ai sunee-ai man rakhee-ai bhaa-o.
Let us listen and sing,nurturing Lord’s love in our heart.
ਦੁਖੁ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਘਰਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ||
ਇਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ , ਸਾਡੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਰੂਪੀ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ |
dukh parhar sukh ghar lai jaa-ay.
Abandoning sorrows,we take home( soul ) all the happiness and joy.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਦੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਦੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ||
ਸੰਗਤ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ , ਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਸਰਬ ਵਿਆਪਕਤਾ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ |
gurmukh naadan gurmukh vaydan gurmukh rahi-aa samaa-ee.
The True Guru’s melody,the True Guru’s wisdom ,the True Guru’s presence is contemplated everywhere.
ਗੁਰੁ ਈਸਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਰਖੁ ਬਰਮਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਰਬਤੀ ਮਾਈ ||
ਗੁਰੁ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਹੈ , ਗੁਰੁ ਹੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਹੈ , ਗੁਰੁ ਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਹੈ , ਗੁਰੁ ਹੀ ਪਾਰਬਤੀ ਮਾਂ ਹੈ |
gur eesar gur gorakh barmaa gur paarbatee maa-ee.
The Guru is Shiva,the Guru is Vishnu and Brahma; Guru is mother Paarvati.
ਜੇ ਹਉ ਜਾਣਾ ਆਖਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਥਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ||
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਜਾਣ ਵੀ ਲਵਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਸਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ |
jay ha-o jaanaa aakhaa naahee kahnaa kathan na jaa-ee.
Even if I know God,I cannot describe Him;it is difficult to describe Him in virtues.
ਗੁਰਾ ਇਕ ਦੇਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ||
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਗੱਲ ਦੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ
guraa ik dahi bujhaa-ee.
The Guru has given me one clear answer to the riddle:
ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਇਕੁ ਦਾਤਾ
ਕਿ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਹੀ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੈ
sabhnaa jee-aa kaa ik daataa
There is only One Almighty,the ultimate Giver.
ਸੋ ਮੈ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ || ੫ ||
ਉਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਨਾ ਭੁੱਲੇ |
so mai visar na jaa-ee.|| 5 ||
whom I would never forget.|| 5 ||
ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਵਾ ਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵਾ
ਜੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਚੰਗੇ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਤੀਰਥ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਦੇ ਤੁੱਲ ਹੈ ,
tirath naavaa jay tis bhaavaa
The holy bath at pilgrimage is useless if God is displeased with us.
ਵਿਣੁ ਭਾਣੇ ਕਿ ਨਾਇ ਕਰੀ ||
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਾ ਲੱਗੇ , ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਦਾ ਕੀ ਫਾਇਦਾ ?
vin bhaanay ke naa-ay karee.
The same bath is auspicious when Thy Name reverberates in the mind.
ਜੇਤੀ ਸਿਰਠਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਵੇਖਾ
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰੱਚੀ ਹੋਈ ਸ਼੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ
jaytee sirath upaa-ee vaykhaa
How can one see the creations of God,
ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਲਈ ||
ਕਿ ਉਹਦੀ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਬਗੈਰ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ |
vin karma ke milai la-ee.
when goodness and good deeds are missing in one’s life ?
ਮਤਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਤਨ ਜਵਾਹਰ ਮਾਣਿਕ
ਸਾਡੀ ਮੱਤ ਹੀਰੇ ਜਵਾਰਾਤ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਜਿਆਦਾ ਅਨਮੋਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ
mat vich rattan javaahar maanik
One is blessed with noble thoughts more valuable than gems,jewels and rubies,
ਜੇ ਇਕ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਿਖ ਸੁਣੀ ||
ਜੇ ਮਨ ਕਰਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਸੁਣ ਲਈਏ |
jay ik gur kee sikh sunee
who follows the right path,as shown by True Guru.
ਗੁਰਾ ਇਕ ਦੇਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ||
