Japanese build working robot that runs off of Android OS

Is an ARM processor powerful enough to drive a real life robot? Well, it probably wouldn’t pass either the Turing or Voight-Kampff tests, but yeah, for basic motor and speech functions, it should be… most of the experiments in robotics, after all, have been powered by much wimpier CPUs than the ones we have in our smartphones today.
No need to speculate, though. Just check out this Japanese robot, running on both an ARM processor and — as you might guess from his appearance — Google’s own Android OS.
The robot was developed by RT Corp and Brilliant Service and unveiled at the Google Developer Day in Tokyo. Obviously, it runs on a version of Android OS, and can walk, respond to voice commands and be controlled directly from a paired Android cellphone.[ame=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vmLFPAh9ZQ&feature=player_embedded]YouTube - RIC Android Robot - 003
Pretty neat. Of course, it was only a matter of time before some cheeky programmer tried to actually build an android out of Android. Why should anyone be surprised that the first ones to do so would be the perpetually robotics-obsessed Japanese?
