Dharamsala May 18:

Riding on Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh's brilliant performances with the willow, Kings XI Punjab slammed a 111 runs victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in an Indian Premiere League match here.

Chasing Kings XI Punjab's mammoth total of 232 runs for the loss of two wickets, the RCB batsmen got all out at 121 runs. Kings XI batsmen played the RCB bowlers quite easily with both Marsh and Gilchrist hitting the balls outside the park quite consecutively. Gilchrist looked in old touch as he butchered the RCB bowlers in his signature style, driving the balls to the boundary like 'mini rockets'.

He scored 106 runs from just 55 balls, hitting nine sixes and eight boundaries in his power pact innings. He was given able support by fellow Aussie S.Marsh, who equally looked menacing with the long handle. Shaun joined the party after PC Valthaty was dismissed by Langeveldt at his personal score of 20 runs. After initial problems with timing, Marsh kept on hitting the ball quite cleanly out of the park.

He hit three boundaries and three over bounbdaries in one over of JJ van der Wath, setting the stage on fire for the entire crowd who had assembled to witness the clash. Marsh scored a fiery 79 runs from 49 deliveries, hitting seven boundaries and five sixes. The Kings Xi batsmen scored a record 232 runs for the loss of two wickets, riding on a memorable second wicket partnership of 206 runs.

Chasing the mammoth total of 233 for victory, the RCB batsmen kept on losing wickets at regular intervals, Chris Gayle (0) and S. Tiwary (6) failed to give RCB the much needed start to the match. AB de Villiers scored 34 and remained the highest scorer for the team. The RCB challenge was over by 17th over as all the batsmrn returned back to the pavilion at 121 runs. PP Chawla remined the top wicket taker for Punjab as he took foir wickets in the match.
