iOS 9 hits record 50% adoption less than a week after releas

Apple today announced that iOS 9, its latest operating system for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch that was released on September 16th is now present in more than 50% of iOS devices. This is a new record for the company. iOS 8 that was released last year took 5 days to reach 46% adoption.
iOS 9 is compatible with the iPhone 4s and newer, iPad 2 and newer, all iPad mini models, and fifth and sixth-generation iPod touch models. The iOS 9 update brings powerful search and improved Siri features, new multitasking features that lets two apps run at once, side by side on iPad, Picture-in-Picture, detailed transit information in Maps, News app and new capabilities in Apple Pay.
The iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus will run iOS 9 out of the box. Both these smartphones will be available in 12 countries that includes, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore, the UK and the US on Friday, September 25.
The iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus come in gold, silver, space gray and the new rose gold colors. These will be available from Apple’s retail stores, U.S. carrires such as AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and select Apple Authorized Resellers. Last year Apple sold record 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones in 3 days after launch. This year it is aiming to exceed the 10 million mark.
Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said:
Customer response to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus has been incredibly positive, we can’t wait to get our most advanced iPhones ever into customers’ hands starting this Friday. iOS 9 is also off to an amazing start, on pace to be downloaded by more users than any other software release in Apple’s history.
