The 311-series Larson Creek SSD has been specially developed to be used together with motherboards supporting Intel’s Smart Response technology, a hard drive caching algorithm which is part of the Intel Rapid Storage Technology v10.5.

This is one of the main features brought by the company’s upcoming Z68 chipset and it allows consumers to join an SSD drive with a hard drive and use the former as a fast cache for improving the storage performance of the system.

No matter what version one winds up choosing, Larson Creek SSDs will be using SLC (single-level cell) NAND Flash, which offers faster read and write transfer rates as well as better reliability at the expense of a higher manufacturing cost.

The 311 Series “Larson Creek” 20 GB SSD was put through a run of CrystalDiskMark, where it clocked transfer rates of nearly 199 MB/s sequential read, and 114 MB/s sequential write.

The Intel SSD 311 Larson Creek 20GB is expected to cost you around USD 119 and will be available in two different form factors, 2.5-inch SATA and mSATA.

The key features of these SSDs are as follow :
Intel X25-M SSD 80GB performance with the convenience of a single drive letter (C:\)
SATA 3Gb/s (SATA Revision 2.0)
20GB capacity, 2.5” 9.5mm and mSATA
Up to 60% performance improvement over a desktop 7200 rpm hard drive
Built with Intel 34nm SLC Compute NAND Flash Memory – higher performance, endurance
Compatible with Intel 6 Series Express Chipsets: Z68, HM67, QM67
