Dubai: Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh died on Monday morning in Mumbai following a brain haemorrhage which had hospitalised the 70-year-old singer last month.

Singh had been admitted to Lilavati hospital and had undergone two surgeries. He was on life-support.

The award-winning Hosh Walon singer had sung in more than 60 Bollywood films including Sarfarosh, Arth and Saath Saath and was credited for having de-mystified ghazals for the comman man.

He also performed to packed houses in Dubai on several occasions.

Singh is survived by his wife Chitra Singh, with whom he had produced several record breaking albums. Their son Vivek Singh died in a road accident in 1990.

Condolences are pouring in from Bollywood stars and singers. Noted singer Shreya Ghoshal tweeted: "Jagjit Ji passes away. One of the saddest day for all us music lovers. The golden voice will not song anymore. Rest in peace."
