No one leaves Biryani Baba’s courtyard with an empty stomach. This is the noble effort taken by 79-year-old Attaullah Shariff Shataj Khadiri Baba, popularly known as ‘Biryani Baba’, who has been serving biryani to the poor for over four decades in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. Shariff is a highly revered religious man from whom thousands of people seek blessings every day.

On special occasions, the number of people exceeds up to 8,000 to 10,000. Biryani Baba has been continuing his legacy with immense determination for the last four decades and in this time period, over a crore people have tasted his biryani. On an average, two tonnes of Basmati rice and quintals of chicken and mutton are used to cook biryani every day.

Surprisingly, Baba himself supervises the entire preparation and often lends his hands in the cooking procedure. Vegetarian food is also served at his darbar, the Langar Khana on the Cheemalapadu Dargah premises. Baba believes that it is way more important to feed the poor and needy irrespective of their religions and with the help of the donors and devotees he continues to carry his noble service smoothly.
