Today HP held the “Innovation Summit” for their Imaging and Printing Group (IPG). It was basically a chance to reveal a few new products and then tell people about them. HP didn’t waste the oppurtunity–they revealed new models and, according to the company, 10 industry-first technologies.

Of all today’s printer news two things caught our attention, the first being the HP Photosmart eStation All-in-One. News of this printer has been around for a few days already, with good reason. This printer works with an Android-powered, detachable 7-inch tablet that can browse the web, work with apps, and handle remote printing. Past the tablet, and a hefty $399 price tag, it’s your standard fax/scan/print/copy all-in-one inkjet.
Engadget went hands-on and noted that the tablet runs Android 2.1, it only uses Yahoo search, and it does not have access to the Android Market, so you have to rely on HP’s apps. It does not have access to Gmail.

The second notable piece of news is an another all-in-one, the Envy 100. This slimmed down model has a 3.45-inch touchscreen, also connects to the web for browsing/apps, and will go for $249. It has wireless-n built in so connectivity is covered. It basically seems like a more simple version of the eStation (as well as an updated, ink version of Samsung’s SCX-4500 if you remember back that far in printer history).
Perhaps the most interesting part of the Envy model is what has become of the Voodoo brand. HP bought the company back in 2006, ostensibly to gain a foothold in the high-end/gaming PC market, but has done little with it since thn. A few computers and laptops were released but now the Envy line has been pushed all the way to the printer segment.
