We find you ways ...simple ways that will keep your stress and anxiety levels away

Smile: One needs to smile a lot, so try watching an old David Dhawan flick or a comedy movie at home or a comedy show on TV - Comedy Central has many good shows.

Shed your tears: Sometimes its essential to let your feelings out and if in that process you cry it cleanses your system and unloads you of a lot of baggage that you are carrying. So crying is good sometimes.

Show love: If you have a small child in the neighborhood, or a dog or a pet at home, nothing better than having fun with them, playing with them and showering love on them. It will surely de-stress you.

Smell: Scented candles sometimes make your room the best of place to be. It puts you in a very good mood. Even scented incense sticks make you feel pure and nice from within.

Eat a nice meal that you have made yourself. Could be anything from a pizza to a rajma rice.

Listen to a nice song: a song that you have cherished or makes you feel good about life. Sunidhi Chauhan's unplugged version of Yaariyan from Cocktail is very good. Or listen to some instrumental music from Yanni or a classical music sarod or santoor music.

Look at pictures from old friends or old memories of school.

Say no to people who just pass your time but lack quality conversations. Stop people from taking you for granted. Instead of spending time with a group of people who are just boring, spend time at home doing something good.

Meditate and chant Omkara a few times. The fresh air and chanting will cool the mind.

Clean your cupboard and room. Sometimes that also helps.

Have a laugh
While all of us have work and family responsibilities, stressing out too much about them will simply cause you more grief — both mentally as well as physically. There are several ways you can unwind — watch your favourite comedy, catch up with close friends and talk about funny memories. Research says that every time you laugh out loud, increased oxygen flows to your organs, blood flow increases, and stress automatically reduces.

Spend time with your pet
Pets are known not only to give you unconditional love, but spending time with them is actually good for your health. Studies say that when you pet your dog/ cat even for just a few minutes, your body releases feel-good hormones like serotonin, prolactin, and oxytocin, and also decreases the amount of the damaging stress hormones. This results in lower blood pressure, less anxiety and even better immunity.

Get rid of the clutter
Are you surrounded by too many things in a not-so-very big space? Having too much stuff can leave you feeling overwhelmed and bog you down, eventually leading to stress. Living in constantly messy surroundings brings on unwanted anxiety. Therefore, experts say you need to de-clutter to de-stress. Don't start by wanting to clear up everything at once. That will only stress you out further. Begin with a small space and gradually move to bigger things. A space that is uncluttered can feel satisfying and soothing.

Do the housework
While this might seem like a mundane, everyday chore, try to do things a bit differently. Put on your favourite music or TV show in the background, make a list of all that needs to be done, and get down working. Not only will you burn calories and get your work down, you won't be tired and stressed out at the end of it.

Drink juices
Researchers say that the vitamin C present in orange juice can actually help you manage stress better because it lowers levels of stress hormones like cortisol. Remember that vitamin C-rich foods such as orange juice, grapefruit juice, strawberries, or sweet red peppers boost your immune system.

Sing out loud
When was the last time you sang loudly to your heart's content? Turn up the radio and start singing. No matter how bad you think you are, studies show that singing can actually make you feel happier and feel less stressed. Singing also benefits your breathing, heart and immune system.

Go for a walk
One of the best ways to beat stress is to exercise. It helps your body produce endorphins that make you feel good. Exercising in warm weather can boost your mood while a daily brisk walk of about 30 minutes can greatly reduce stress levels.

Breathe deeply
Invest in some lavender or rosemary scents and take a deep whiff — it will instantly put you in a more relaxed state and lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol. If you prefer not to use scents, practice the act of deep breathing regularly. This sends oxygen surging through your bloodstream, helping to calm down and beat stress.

Traffic jams
Keep a stash of soothing music CDs in your car and listen to them when you are stuck in traffic the next time. Nature sounds or soothing classical music are good options.

The never-ending wait
Utilise the additional time well, while you are in a queue. Organise your wallet, update your address book or indulge in a crossword puzzle on your cellphone. You can also tone yourself by practising isometric exercises when waiting in line.

Work stress
When work gets on your nerves, take a break and focus on your breathing. Sit comfortably with your back straight and close your eyes. Do not entertain outside thoughts. Continue this for 5 to 10 minutes.

Demanding family life
If you feel overwhelmed with demands from your kids and spouse, try to break away for a short walk as a personal time out. Indulging in an activity that you enjoy will put you in a better frame of mind. If that's not possible, play board games together or watch a comedy to lighten the mood.

Job interview jitters
Interviews can be stressful affairs. Apart from being wellprepared, make sure you are hydrated enough. Even mild dehydration causes fatigue, mental fogginess, and headaches, all of which might add stress. If time permits, you can also practise deep breathing while on your way to the interview.
