Chandigarh July 18:

Reacting to PCC chief Amarinder Singh’s statement on Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal seeking the Prime Minister’s intervention in the Hansi Butana issue, the Shiromani Akali Dal said the Congress seems to be forgetting history.

In a statement, SAD spokesman and secretary Daljit Singh Cheema said if water disputes are an interstate issue, then how did then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi intervene and allocate water to Haryana during the emergency. “This act was one of the gravest excesses of emergency. It was on the basis of this illegal action of Indira Gandhi that the matter became an inter-state issue. Otherwise as per internationally accepted riparian principles only Punjab has the right of its river waters.

Now, Captain Amarinder Singh wants the chief minister to withdraw the case from the Supreme Court and act in the same manner as the then Congress CM Darbara Singh who had betrayed the state by withdrawing the case from the Supreme Court,” Cheema said.
