Punjab News Honour killings: Punjab sets up shelters for couples

In order to prevent honour killing, the Punjab government has established protection Homes/Centres at district level to provide protection to the inter-caste newly married couples.

Stating this here today, a spokesman for the Home Affairs and Justice Department said that such protections Homes/Centres had been established at Barnala, Gurdaspur and SAS Nagar (three in each district), five in Mansa, four in Hoshiarpur, two in each Faridkot and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar districts and one each in the remaining districts under the supervision of respective Deputy Commissioners.

The spokesman said that wherever newly wedded couples felt their life and property was in danger, the Punjab Government would provide security at reasonable cost besides boarding and lodging to secure life and liberty of these couples for a period of six weeks after their marriages in this protection Homes/Centres.
