Well technically Hinduism does not permit Alcohol , Non vegetarian food including egg & smoking. There are few sects which are still staunch believers like vaishnavs, Jains, Baniyas, Pandits etc..
Goes back to Vedas , the hindu community feels that eating non veg alters a persons disposition i.e. anger.. Also Karmas - in terms of you are killing sumthin to eat it , hence committing a crime & it will come around..
Heavy Karmas mean you will not get a good Yoni in your next incarnation i.e. U come back as an insect or sumthing ... there are "baasat crore" yonis (dont know hindi counting but have heard this)
Today everyone is liberal, some follow TTS(tuesday, thursday , Saturday) no non veg or alcohol on those days... Pure veg toh koi community bachi nahi
