Punjab News Haryana govt fines 150 firms for violating child labour act

Aiming to eradicate child labour from the State, Haryana Labour Department has challaned 150 commercial establishments or their owners for violating Child Labour Prohibition and Regulation Act.

An official spokesperson said that during the campaign, around160 children of below 14 years of age had been rescued and the Department would continue to carry out the campaign till June 20.

“Under this campaign, 13 different commercial establishments in district Sirsa had so far been served challans and 21 children have been rescued. 15 children from Sirsa, five from Dabwali and one from Ellenabad have been rescued from child labour,” he said. He said that two teams had been constituted for conducting surprise raids in the State.

“The teams have also been constituted at district and sub-divisional level comprising concerned Sub-divisional Officer, Executive Magistrate, Tehsildar and officers of Social Justice and Empowerment Department,” official added. Apart from organising awareness camps, every day surprise checks were also being conducted by these teams in their respective areas.

He further stated that the information about Child Labour Prohibition and Regulation Act was being given to representatives of brick kiln owners, industries, hotels, dhabas and other commercial establishments.
