Gurgaon: Woman raped at Artemis hospital, suspects arrested

An 18-year-old woman working in the housekeeping department of Gurgaon’s Artemis hospital was allegedly gang-raped by her two supervisors on the hospital campus on Saturday.
The suspects were arrested on Tuesday , police said. The accused are Pradeep, 28, a native of Mahendergarh district in Haryana and Gogai Das, 31, from West Bengal. Police said they had been with the hospital for the last three years.
The hospital administration said the accused and the victim were outsourced staff. “They had nothing to do with the hospital,” said an Artemis hospital spokesperson.
The two were produced before a court on Tuesday and sent to judicial custody,” said a police spokesperson.
The incident took place on the ground floor of a under-construction portion of the hospital in Sector 51 on Saturday afternoon.
The victim is from Uttar Pradesh and lives on rent with her family in Gurgaon. She had joined the department just a week ago, police said.
The woman said in her complaint Pradeep allegedly raped her in the space below the stairs. Before she could recover from the shock, Gogai Das took her to the toilet where he raped her.
After the incident, the woman informed her parents who informed the hospital administration. A case was lodged at the women’s police station.
A case was registered against the duo under sections 376-D (gang rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
