Google has launched Android Experiments, a new website that showcases unique and innovative apps for Android devices such as smartphones, tablets, and Android Wear smartwatches.

Google suggests that these “experiments” celebrate creativity and code on Android. Each listing on the Android Experiment site comes with screenshots, videos and a description of what makes it innovative. At present there are 20 experimental apps on the website that are from a broad range of creative work–from camera experiments to innovative Android Wear apps to hardware hacks to cutting edge OpenGL demos. Google said that all these apps are built using platforms such as the Android SDK and NDK, Android Wear, the IOIO board, Cinder, Processing, OpenFrameworks and Unity.
Each project creatively examines in small and big ways how we think of the devices we interact with every day, says Google. There is an open invitation for developers to submit projects and this does not come with any rigid guidelines. Google said that its main aim is ” to encourage more developers to challenge how we interact with the devices we use every day”.
