<table align="center" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="90%"><tbody><tr> <td> UNP extends its heartiest wishes to you on the eve of the festival of fire - Lohri to all Punjabis living in Punjab and away. This is the time, when we all begin the yearlong festivities in traditional Punjabi style. Lohri brings with it, a new hope, a new beginning every year for Punjabis.

Lohri is celebrated every year on 13th of January. It is a festival of fire - a fire that Punjabis as a community represent, a fire that keeps the Punjabis atop wherever they pursue their lives. Lohri Festival is celebrated with great pomp in North India. First Lohri is very important for the newly wed and the new born babies as it marks fertility. At night, people gather around the bonfire and throw til, puffed rice & popcorns into the flames of the bonfire. Prayers are offered to the bonfire seeking abundance & prosperity. People make merry by dancing & singing traditional folk songs. There are various folk songs related with Lohri festival, one of them is:
</td></tr> <tr> <td>
</td></tr> <tr> <td>
(Prosperity may come and wretchedness may go! Lets all burn away the poverty and sickness in the holy fire...)
</td></tr> <tr> <td>
</td></tr> <tr> <td> 13th January is equally important to Sikhs as a community. On this day, the formal foundation of Sri Harmandar Sahib was laid. Sri Harmandar Sahib has been the center of Sikhi for over 417 years now. Mela Maghi is held on the same day at Mukatsar in remembrance of 'Chaalih Mukte' or 'the 40 emancipated ones'. Forty Singhs, who had first deserted Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji in Anandpur Sahib, when rebuked by Mai Bhago, joined Guru Sahib in his war against Mughal Armies at 'Khidrane Di Dhab' later named ‘Mukatsar’ after them. On this day, they attained martyrdom and were emancipated by Guru Ji from their sin of turning their back to Guru Sahib.

So, this year, January 13th bears in its lap, three very auspicious events for Punjabi community. Sikhpoint.com congratulates you a million times on this holy day and prays to Waheguru to bless you with Peace, Happiness and Prosperity. Chant Waheguru Naam and keep Akal Purkh in your mind celebrating all these festivals.

</td></tr> <tr> <td>
</td></tr> <tr> <td> May Waheguru shower his blessings upon you.

Send e-greetings to your near and dear ones on the eve of Lohri from sikhpoint.com.
