The Supreme Court today adjourned the hearing on the Dharamsala stadium row as Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh sought time to respond to the court notice on HP Cricket Association (HPCA) president Anurag Thakur’s plea for quashing the criminal case against him and the HPCA for alleged irregularities in the maintenance of the stadium and its property.
A Bench comprising Justices Dipak Misra and PC Pant posted the hearing for October 27. Appearing for Thakur, senior advocate PS Patwalia pleaded for expediting the hearing as the Central government had refused permission to prosecute two IAS officers in the case.
On August 21, the apex court had allowed notice to be served on the Chief Minister.
The case pertains to land allotment to the HPCA by the previous BJP government headed by PK Dhumal and its alleged misuse. In its response to the SC notice, the state government has pleaded against quashing the case against the HPCA and others.
The corruption case has been filed against Thakur and others in 2014 in the court of special judge of Kangra at Dharamsala. The HPCA and Thakur have filed the appeal challenging the state HC’s April 25, 2014 judgment rejecting their plea for quashing the criminal proceedings.
