A stiff lower back has forced Chris Gayle to miss out on the upcoming ODI series against England. He will also miss the one-off ODI against Ireland on Sunday.
All-rounder Dwayne Smith has been named as his replacement, said a WICB statement.
The 34-year old Gayle suffered the injury in the first T20I against Ireland. Consequently he missed out on the second T20I. It was his first competitive match in more than 4 months. A hamstring injury during the ODI series in India in November had forced him out of the New Zealand tour. He will now undergo treatment in Jamaica to recuperate.
The one-day series against England begins on Feb. 28 with further matches on March 2 and 5 before three Twenty20 internationals in Barbados.
