Home Decor Gardening: Seasonal Flowers to Cheer Up Your Home

Living in a big city may mean cramped homes and matchbox-like balconies. So, battling for space is only natural. Given the situation, let's admit that a little green cover in your balcony or even on the terrace is only going to do you good. And guess what? You don’t have to walk 100 miles to get started with a small flower garden in the comfort of your home.

If you are a newbie in the trade, then we suggest you to stick to seasonal flowers during winter and spring for your balcony or the terrace. All you have to do is ensure that the beauties are getting enough sunlight and daily water to stay nourished. To help you get started, here are a few flowers that you could grow.

Balcony
Adenium: Adenium also known as desert rose plants, are one of the easiest plants to grow in your balcony. The best thing about adenium is that you can control the size of the plant and restrict it to a window sill or the concrete ledge of the balcony. When in bloom, adenium produces some of the most beautiful pink flowers.

Poinsettias: The flaming red and green foliage of poinsettias make the plant an obvious choice in homes with compact balconies where direct sunlight is an issue. The reason being they thrive best without sunlight! When it comes to watering them, less is more for poinsettias.

Petunia: Petunias can survive hot and humid climates, and are therefore a definite choice when it comes to Indian homes. They are also preferred for their ornamental value, as they produce some of the prettiest flowers in various shades of pink and purple. Given that they must be watered once every two to five days, maintaining pentunias becomes quite effortless especially for working women.

Terrace
Bougainvillea
: If you are blessed with your own terrace, then lucky you! But, if you are allowed to have a section turned into a tiny garden, then we say go for it. Given that, bougainvilleas are a brilliant option simply because they bear colourful flowers especially during winter. The best way to grow them is in a medium-sized pot, and allow them to spread on a wall in your terrace. Just ensure they get at least three to four hours of direct sunlight and daily water.

Dahlia: Dahlias are probably the most common flower plants found in Indian gardens. They are apt for sunny climates and usually bloom for a good eight months! Since dahlias come in varying sizes, it is therefore advisable to choose containers accordingly, and those with a good drainage outlet. Also, make sure your dahlias get at least six to eight hours of sunlight and daily water.

Wild roses: While you may think growing roses is high maintenance, let us tell you that wild roses are also apt for Indian weather. They usually grow in spring and require a good five to six hours of sunlight to thrive. Having said that, roses also love water, but again avoid overwatering them
