The SGPC today formed a three-member committee to investigate fracas at the Golden Temple complex on Bandi Chhor Diwas (Diwali) and the role played by its employees.
Members of the committee are Rajinder Singh Mehta, Mohan Singh Bangi and Nirmail Singh Jaula, said SGPC additional secretary Daljit Singh Bedi. He said the committee had been asked to give its report within a fortnight.
The role of SGPC employees has come under the scanner as a day later (on November 12) devotees detained some persons in an inebriated condition from a serai inside the Golden Temple complex.
SGPC interim committee member Karnail Singh Panjoli alleged all those persons were released by the police on the intervention of an influential SGPC member. He said these persons had violated Sikh maryada (code of conduct). He asked SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar to make public details of those persons and on whose recommendations they were given accommodation in the inn.
Allegations are being levelled against SGPC employees for their failure to prevent some youths from brandishing swords at Akal Takht.
The panel will also probe recurring incidents of SGPC employees defying orders of their senior officials.
