Maharashtra, June 21: Five members of a family were killed in their sleep when their house in Teegaon village in Maharashtra’s Beed District collapsed on Sunday.

According to reports, a heavy downpour in the area resulted in the collapse of the house of Shindge family.

Among the dead were Narayan Raosahab Shindge, Nand Kishore Shindge, Meena Nandkishore Shindge and Vishal Nandkishore Shindge and Sambhaji Nandkishore Shindge.

“At 5.30, all of a sudden, we heard the thud sound and rushed out only to see the collapse of the dwelling of the Shindges,” said Ram Kothule, who was among the first persons to reach the spot.

“All the neighbours joined us and we aimed to rescue whoever was trapped. It was a ghastly sight,” he added.

Locals said that the Shindge’s residence was old and probably could not bear the continuous heavy rainfall for the past couple of days.
