New Delhi, May 16 : Nine people were detained here Wednesday after an incident of violence in the aftermath of clashes in Punjab as the Sikh community demanded an apology from the head of Dera Sacha Sauda sect.
Activists of the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) were allegedly attacked by Dera Sacha Sauda followers in Vikas Puri in west Delhi when the former were protesting against the depiction of Dera head Gurmit Ram Rahim for portraying himself on the lines of revered 10th Sikh guru Gobind Singh.
The two groups also destroyed vehicles of two TV news channels and the situation was tense in the area, police said.
"We have detained nine people and security has been tightened in all Sikh populated areas," a senior police official said.
Similar clashes were also reported from Keshopur, Janak Puri and Tilak Nagar in west Delhi.

The All -India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) has urged the state government to immediately ban the activities of the Dera Sacha Sauda for hurting the sentiments of the Sikh community all over the world. Taking a serious note of the advertisement which appeared in a section of the press today in which chief of the dera Sant Ram Rahim Singh has appeared in the dress of the 10th Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, Manjit Singh Bhoma, president, AISSF, in a missive to Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal has urged him to immediately ban the activities of the dera for denigrating the Sikh Guru. Bhoma said if the state government failed to ban the activities of the dera chief, the incident of 1978 would be repeated as the dera chief was interfering in the religious affairs of the Sikhs in connivance with the Congress.
