In the second drug seizure in two days, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel recovered 10 kg of heroin - valued at Rs 50 crore in the international market - from two farmers-turned-smugglers returning after tilling their fields situated beyond the border fence. Their accomplice managed to escape.
ML Washan, DIG BSF, Ferozepur range, told media persons that personnel posted at gate number 138 in the area of border outpost KS Bala were alerted by the suspicious movements of farmers Gurlal Singh, 18, Lal Singh, 25, and Bikar Singh when they were returning with their bullock cart after work.
During a search of the bullock cart, BSF jawans recovered 10 kg of heroin hidden under the grass. BSF jawans also recovered a 100-ft pipe, 20 metre electric wire, a wristwatch and a personal diary, he said.
