Lucknow: The body of Uttar Pradesh Deputy CMO YS Sachan was cremated here on Friday evening after his family members yielded to apparent police pressure to perform the last rites on receiving the post mortem report.

The body was taken to the electric crematorium here and the cremation was performed with the consent of his family members, brother of the deceased RK Sachan said.

"There was no pressure from the government in this regard," he said.

The family members were earlier not ready to cremate the body alleging that he was murdered.

During the cremation, some persons raised slogans against the state government.

52-year-old Sachan was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the toilet of the Lucknow jail hospital on Wednesday. In the autopsy, injury marks were seen on the neck, elbows, thigh and left wrist.

The brother of the deceased said that the family does not feel the need for a second post mortem examination.

"We are satisfied with the post mortem report. Earlier there was an apprehension of foul play before we received the autopsy report," he said.

He, however, stuck to the demand for a CBI probe. "According to the autopsy report there were eight ante-mortem injuries on the body and the theory of ligature mark due to hanging has been completely ruled out," he said.

"If required, we are ready to take legal recourse and approach the apex court as we have no faith in the ongoing judicial inquiry ordered by the state government," he said.

Sachan said the family was of the view that a CBI inquiry was required to look into the matter from all angles.

Special Director General of Police Brij Lal, meanwhile said no application has been received from Sachan's wife to lodge a murder case.

"No letter for a CBI inquiry has also been received," secretary Home Leena Jauhari said.
