Kolkata: The three-member bench of the Election Commission (EC) Thursday embarked on a day-long visit to Kolkatta to oversee preparations for the last three phases of the ongoing six-phase assembly elections in West Bengal.
The seven districts that will vote in the fourth, fifth and sixth phases are Howrah, Hooghly, East Midnapore, Burdwan, West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia.
In the first three phases, elections were held in 179 constituencies, spread over 12 districts. Of the remaining 115 constituencies, 63 constituencies will go to the polls this coming Tuesday, 38 next Saturday and 14 on May 10.
Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi and the other two commissioners, V.S. Sampath and H.S. Brahma, held review meetings with the district administration and the top police officials of the seven districts.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission on Wednesday wrote a letter to West Bengal's main opposition, the Trinamool Congress, seeking an explanation on the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist's (CPM) allegations that it used dirty money for canvassing during the ongoing state assembly polls, a senior official said.
