Kapil Kumar of Bangalore got a Pizza delivered at his home from Domino’s a few hours ago, but the bill received along with his order immediately grabbed his attention.

The pizza had a price of Rs 530 on which Domino’s provided a discount of Rs 100. The taxable amount therefore comes to Rs 430.

The company’s bill has two major mistakes which, if not checked, will rob crores of rupees from lakhs of customers.

The service tax has been billed twice, once at 5.6% and once at 5.8% (which is the correct tax rate). This is a glaring error, and easy to fix.
A bigger issue with this bill is the VAT. Based on what mathematics does 14.5% of Rs 430 amount to Rs 124.70? This calculation is absurd and something most customers could miss.
Overall, this customer lost Rs 24.80 due to double Service Tax, and Rs 62.35 due to incorrect VAT. a total loss of Rs 87.15 on a single pizza!

Now, just multiply this by the total number of pizzas that are sold in India. The amount, if billed incorrectly, could run in crores every day!

We really hope this is an inadvertent error on part of the company, and request them to provide an explanation on this error and how it plans to reimburse the wrongly charged amounts to not just this customer, but all other customers who could have been wrongly charged just like this. Surely they have the contact details of all customers, and the company must immediately implement a plan to refund such amounts.

We also appreciate the customer Kapil Kumar for being vigilant and bringing this case to light. We request all members of our community to always ask for a bill, and carefully read the contents to ensure they are not being duped.
