Rating: 4/5 Stars (Four Stars)

Star cast: Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra, Katrina Kaif, Jackie Shroff.

Director: Vijay Krishna Acharya

What’s Good:
The raw high octane action sequence, the pitch perfect bike thrills and mostly a great writing which lacked in both the previous editions.

What’s Bad:
Stretching at 3 Hours, the film is a little too long but at its advantage never boring. However, Aamir and Katrina’s amateurish love track could have been avoided.

Loo break: None

Watch or Not?: Dhoom 3 is a definite must watch. Breathtakingly shot with gorgeous cinematography, this edition notches higher than its preceding films in terms of thrills and mostly in terms of soul. You wouldn’t want to miss a defining moment in commercial films of Bollywood. There is all the action and gadgets, seamlessly beaded together but with a story that crackles!

The story starts with the history of Great Indian Circus in Chicago which is mortgaged at the Western Chicago Bank. Its owner Iqbal has found the magic trick of wooing the bankers but loses the bait unfortunately.

On an eventful night of the circus, Iqbal kills himself due to his inability to save his circus. Years later, Chicago bank is being robbed relentlessly and the thief leaves a Joker’s mask each time. Iqbal’s son Sahir manages to start up their circus again co-incidentally. The Bombay Police is summoned and obvious links are found between Iqbal’s son Sahir’s involvement in the burglary.

Will Jai and Ali win against Sahir who is determined to seek revenge and destroy the bank for life?

Dhoom 3 Review: Script Analysis
It takes a while for the film’s plot to reveal completely. Luckily the writers pack in ample suspense to keep your interest latched to the film from the scene go. While Dhoom and Dhoom 2 both worked because of style and slickness, this one works for its grit. It essentially has all the fun and entertainment that comes as a package from the franchise but luckily this time the makers did not decide to give the story a miss. Aamir’s bikes and all the death defying stunts are extremely filmy to the core giving the audiences a taste of what essentially qualifies as Bollywood, but this time they infuse a highly emotional story.

Of course, one wouldn’t watch Dhoom for a story. It has always been about the ‘femme fatalles’ and ‘Fast and Furious’ stunts. But this one reveals itself as less of a wet dream than what you expect. I specifically like the realistic writing that was attempted in this one. Using one of Bollywood’s archaic props in a contemporary movie like this is astonishing and commendably used.

The reason why the writing is great in this film is not because of how the story is structured but on what it is based. Getting to India, the concept of international circus, recovering the Shakespearean idea of wittiness of a clown is praiseworthy.

The film in the second half resorts to unbelievable sloppiness and slackens a little in terms of looseness in the consistency of film’s writing but nevertheless, the use of a few extremely stellar ideas makes this film fantastic for me.

Dhoom 3 Review: Star Performances
It is best to reveal as little as possible about Aamir’s character. To say the least, Aamir Khan is sincere in whatever he does. He plays every shade of his role with smoothness, ease and perfection.

Katrina Kaif is beautiful in every frame. She is perfect with her acts and the dance. Sadly, her role isn’t written with more meat or emotion.

Abhishek Bachchan is as good as Jai Dixit as he has always been.

And no curt words for Uday Chopra. God bless him for all the comic relief he provides. Without him, Dhoom would be a brooding and distastefully somber.

Dhoom 3 Review: Direction, Editing and Screenplay
Vijay Krishna Acharya does his job quite well. Though comparisons with Gadhvi is unavoidable, let’s just say he is differently better. We have always watched Dhoom for car smashes, bike chases, but this time Dhoom for me was way more from the heart. And I enjoyed way more.

I have always rooted for the Dhoom villains more so for Hrithik Roshan. His cucumber cool demeanor and composed style of stealing made me root for him. He was just so much cooler than the policemen. This time my heart went out for the villains. Their emotional baggage was so believable that you’ll want them to win each time.

The film’s editing could have been more taut. The dramatic sequences might seem overdrawn especially because the film borders at a runtime of nearly three hours. For its length, the film deters you a little.

Dhoom 3 Review: The Last Word
Dhoom 3 was spectacular and majestic. Keeping a strong hold on the emotional prowess of its plot, the film sews in the slick action so awe strikingly. Don’t go in expecting an Aamir Khan film because it isn’t without flaws. But it gets right everything that is must for a commercial film, especially its ability to grasp on to the interest of audiences. Even cool thieves are vulnerable people and to be able to get that correct is what makes Dhoom 3 a winner. One bang up job! I am going with 4 stars for the only hitch that good films don’t necessarily need to stretch this long.

Star Cast – Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra.

Produced by – Aditya Chopra

Directed by – Vijay Krishna Acharya

Duration – 2 hours 53 minutes

Unitezz Rating - ★★ half

The team of Dhoom is back and this time with a raw high octane action drama. And don’t miss those Bike sequences which have become a trademark of its series.Well compared to the other two Dhoom series that were out and out Con drama’s this is based on an emotional background of revenge.

The story starts with The Great Indian Circus in Chicago that is owned by Jackie Shroff who teaches his son Sahir(Aamir Khan)all the tricks of the trade. But is murdered and therein starts the revenge drama with Sahir who now owns the circus with Aaliya (Katrina Kaif) on a mission to rob the people he blames for his fathers murder. To stop him we have ACP Jai Dixit(Abhishek Bachchan) and his side kick Ali (Uday Chopra). And so starts the drama of cat and mouse.

Aamir Khan is outstanding as Sahir, with his intriguing robbing sequences and outstanding action stunts. Just like the protagonists in the other Dhoom series, he too is depicted as a clever and intelligent planner. Katrina Kaif as his love interest adds the glamour quotient by playing her role well and the stunts and the dances that she has done is truly to be applauded.

Abhishek Bachchan once again as ACP Jai Dixit has truly grown much better and Uday Chopra is once again the lovable Ali, but this time with a new love interest also adds the comic factor to the movie.

Music by Pritam lends credence to the story and seems like it is already on the way to top the music charts. Vijay Krishna Acharya has done his job quite well and under him Dhoom 3 has come out as a slick flick. Latest technology was used in making of the movie. The story-line with that emotional content makes your heart go out for the villain.

The second half is slightly slacking and at almost three hours the lenght is a little deterring but all in all it is ‘Dhoom Machale All The Way’.

Don’t Expect Something Extra Ordinary from Dhoom 3 Comparing to the Previous two Versions . Its like Same Packaging like the previous two versions with Different Boxes

Welcome to the flying world of YRF's Dhoom 3. I say so because here a motorbike can fly efficiently and if the need arises then it can also become a speed boat and if you push it further it can also function underwater. Well it's not just cool bikes even an auto rickshaw can fly here!
{mosimage}
Vijay Kirshna Acharya's Dhoom 3 is another visual treat where you get to see a fancy foreign city, cool bikes, police cars and good stunts but that's about it. The Dhoom series theme music when clubbed with the action stunts in the latest installment provides some entertainment because what you end up watching is not all that bad. But if you are looking for any logic, you are watching the wrong film.

Sahir (Aamir Khan) loses his father because a Chicago bank doesn't allow him to continue his circus and asks him to shut shop. Since then his mission is to shut the bank down, he wouldn't settle for anything lesser! A talented circus boy grows up and continues to run the circus and rob the same bank living in the same city, but of course he is never caught because he is no less than a magician. Robberies are well planned and executed by him. In the United States no security agency has managed to catch him and no camera has captured his face while he is on the move. Post the robbery he returns to the circus as if nothing ever happened.

Since he leaves a message in Hindi each time he robs a bank the management calls for some help from India. ACP Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan) and Ali Akbar (Uday Chopra) take charge of the case in Chicago and the local police take a back seat. As one would only guess, each time Sahir is one step ahead but what's surprising is how useless the entire security system is made to look. When Sahir hears of Jai's arrival, he immediately plans to meet him and take him into confidence which will help him understand his game-plan. Although what's questionable here is the very fact that why would a cop who is just handed over an important case come to trust an unknown person in an unknown country. It is far from my understanding at least.

As always you can make out Aamir Khan has worked hard for this particular role and it shows in many parts but it doesn't match to what Hrithik Roshan did in Dhoom 2. Neither does Aamir pull off the action very well nor the dance steps. Katrina Kaif plays Aaliya, Sahir's love interest; she has a very short role in the film. She puts a great show together in her opening scene and then she has very little to do. Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra's famous chemistry from the previous films does show in some portions. Music by Pritam and Julius Packiam is below average.

Dhoom 3 is full of loop holes, over-the-top acting and an overdose of action that doesn't fit well all the time. The timing is right so the film will run to packed houses but it's surely not a film that I would recommend as your last outing for 2013!

Expectations:
In Initial times, success of a movie was decided on the number of weeks it used to run in the cinema hall. The benchmarks were decided on the base of 50 Days, 100 Days, Silver Jubilee (25 Weeks), Golden Jubilee (50 Weeks) and so on. But in 2005 with the release of 'The Rising: Ballad of Mangal Pandey' the whole concept changed. This movie barely ran for few weeks but made huge money for the makers associated with it due to its high publicity and maximum release. But the movie which took the best advantage of this newly found success mantra was, 'Dhoom 2'. 'Doom 2' just cashed in over its huge star cast, wide release all over the globe along with the past glory of its predecessor 'Dhoom'. But with this the quality of big entertaining cinema started deteriorating as the focus shifted from content to style quotient. Recent entertainers came out only over its star power along with remake of some super hit south Indian flick with peppy songs and over the top action. Giving the audience no option but to watch these so called big films on the festival day, this lacked highly over the content factor and makers happily made huge bucks. 2013 too, witnessed many such films like 'Chennai Express', 'Krrish 3' and many more where the makers could have focused on its content but stuck to the star power and marketing gimmicks only. The last big release of this year is 'Dhoom 3' starring the ace khan Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and the original stars of 'Dhoom', Abhishek Bachchan along with Uday Chopra. But looking at the current scenario of entertaining cinema and the last franchise of 'Dhoom', it appears as if this film too, might focus only over its style quotient and marketing tricks. So let's find out whether 'Dhoom 3' may just be like any other big festive release trying to cash in over its festive season and past glory or might restore our faith in entertaining cinema due to the presence of the ace khan - Aamir Khan.

Story:

'Dhoom 3' is story of Sahir (Aamir Khan) who decides to avenge his father's (Jackie Shroff) death by robbing the bank which destroyed him. He highly succeeds in his robbery plans and starts the circus which was at one time owned by his father. He is joined by Aaliya (Katrina Kaif) in his circus acts, but to stop his loot, the government decides to call in the ace cop ACP Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan) and his colleague Ali Akbar (Uday Chopra). What happens next is what the entire film is all about.

Screenplay & Technicalities:
The initial part of the film might remind you of lots of Hollywood flicks like 'Now You See Me', 'Prestige' and even our own Amitabh Bachchan starrer 'Akayla' also Govinda starrer 'Muqabla'. But besides these minor references the story has a soul attached to it which is fantastic. The first half has some glitches but second half is flawless and total engaging. You would not even like to blink in a single scene featuring Aamir Khan. The movie has good blending of action, drama and emotions with some great scenes like the whole Jackie Shroff part in the initial phase of the film followed by some breath taking action scenes like Aamir Khan robbing the bank, Abhishek chasing Aamir Khan and few more. Also scenes like Aamir's first meet with Abhishek followed by Abhishek interrogating Aamir Khan, the interval twist followed by the childhood scenes, Aamir's outing on Sunday, Abhishek-Aamir's chat over Katrina followed by Aamir's argument, Aamir fooling Abhishek and the finale portions will keep you glued to the silver screen. On the flip side Uday Chopra keeps doing the repetitive acts which are unintentionally funny but filled with over acting. Abhishek and Uday have some similar dialogs which they had used in the earlier parts of 'Dhoom' series, the makers should have added some more detailing out here. Besides these minor negative points the movie is out and out fun filled ride with total paisa vasool type of feeling. Though the movie is almost three hour long but with Aamir in it you want to see more of him, thus do not miss the end credit song. A special mention for the special effects attached to it, which are fantaboulus and never seen before on Indian silver screen.

Music & Direction:
Music by Pritam is good and the movie has some good songs like 'Kamli' and the title track. But 'Malang' is a visual treat due to superb performance by Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif in it. 'Tu Hi Junoon' is total Karan Johar style of song featuring Aamir Khan thus making it different and enchanting. The 'Dhoom Tap' dance by Aamir Khan is outstanding. The theme music goes perfect with the feel of the film.
Director Vijay Krishna Acharya's first directorial venture 'Tashan' was a disaster, but slowly it found its audience over the home video and have a niche fan following. Thus, was the big question mark attached to 'Dhoom 3' but his way of presenting an entertaining cinema with a soul attached to it along with one of India's finest special effect scenes is remarkable. Big thanks to Aaditya Chopra for trusting his vision and giving him another opportunity which turns out to be his arrival vehicle.

Performances:
Speaking about the performance Aamir Khan does something which he has never done before and is just magnificent. His expressions especially the emotional and the cute ones are mind blowing. In the second half it's impossible for anyone to take off their eyes from this legendary actor. He takes the whole film to a superior level. With every release of his he teaches his so called competitors a big lesson. As the movie ends you will desperately want to see more of him,. Abhishek Bachchan looks great and does his part with total grace, whished there was more meat attached to his role. Uday Chopra is repetitive and at times funny. Katrina Kaif looked good but does not have much to do in this film. Jackie Shroff is superb in his part. Siddharth Nigham is brilliant.

So bol meri "FILMI KHOPDI" iss film mein kitna hain Dum?
Dum? Well this movie has all the dum which was highly missing in so called entertaining masala films of the year 2013. This is the Masala Entertainer I crave for and finally got it over the years end. You don't need any south Indian remakes or just star power or unwanted marketing gimmicks to make an entertaining film. All you need is a proper soul attached to the film with total conviction and fantastic performance attached to it. As for the 'Dhoom' fans, if 'Dhoom' had the X-Factor then 'Dhoom 3' has triple X-factor. A special thanks to Aamir Khan for restoring our faith in entertaining cinema and giving us a great Xmas gift again.
Rating : 4.5/5 (Based on the entertainment factor)
